Dear Pastmaster,

We're *happy* to have your data as well! There are a number of F150online participants driving pre-1997 F-150's, and they like to be able to compare their mileage to another similar vehicle too!

Thanks for your post,

I finally broke down last week and checked my gas milage when I went on a hunting trip. I got a little better than 21 mpg at 70 mph pulling a empty 4x8 utility trailer. Pretty damn good for a big old heavy supercab!

Average around town is 12.2mpg, and on the highway is 14.4mpg. The best I've ever got was last week on my trip from Oklahoma to Texas and it was 15.0 mpg on 282 miles and 19.0 gallons.

Truck info in Signature.

Cool

I have a 98 XL, 4.6L, 3.55LS, Auto, Fed. Emissions, and 25,000 miles. I bought the truck used with around 19,500 miles. My daily commute 5 days a week is roughly 45 miles round trip. Most of it is 2 lane hiway, with some in city driving. However on the weekend me and the wife might take a trip somewhere. I have tracked mpg, starting with my first fillup. I average 16.7, my worst is a 15.0 and my best is 17.7. I use 87 octane from phillips 66 stations, (have a gas card and don't carry alot of cash).

Mike T,

I thought I would post my milage on my 2000. So far the running average is 12.8 mpg. HWY at 70 mph is Between 13.6 and 14.6 mpg. This is based on two 1200 mile trips to Québec. City is 9.5 to 11.1mpg. The truck now has 6700km or 4164 miles. Still a new truck so it should get better. All numbers were US MPGs.

During my last trip back from Georgia my first tank (Enmark 93 Octane) netted 18.3 mpg, the second tank (Citco 89 Octane) dropped it to 17.8 mpg! I averaged 72 mph.

I did a minor airbox mod while at home, I removed the restrictive snorkel and replaced it with a 4" plastic drain pipe connector! Yea, it sounds crude, but worked out well! The connector had molded clips, that after cutting a slit on both sides of the pipe slipped into the fender well opening and locked itself in place! The other end was cut, slit and fastened to the airbox with a screw clamp! Total cost of the mod: $1.97! And all the parts are available at your local Lowes Home Improvement (and Budget Speed) Store! The actual inlet through the Fender well is 3 1/2", for more cool air! I have no clue if this had any bearing on the gas mileage, but I'm sure the engine is breathing a little easier, now I just need to work on the out going flow!

My city and highway are pretty close. The worst mileage I've had is 11.2 the best is 12.92. I average 12. I will superchip soon and also change to a K&N filter. I will post anything that increases the mileage for me.

thanks
Mike J.
