Question Super Chip for my 93 F-150 302? What can I expect?

Ok I am in the process of getting my 93
F-150 to be an overall better performer. So far I have:

K&N Drop In
Royal Purple Synthetic Diff Oil
Pirelli Scorpion Zero Tires

As the truck is right now it is pretty quick but most of it's power seems to be at higher speeds so it must be geared rather high. I want to get some better 0-60 and 1/4 times. I was going to put a cat-back exhaust system on the truck but I would prefer for the truck to be kind of a sleeper because all the guys at my school ( yea I'm a high schooler that thinks he's so cool :P ) drive 93-94 5.7 2WD Chevys and they think they are just so fast so I need to infiltrate enemy lines quietly! Hehe, anyways right now the truck will barley even chirp the tires from take off (and it's not pos-trac) that shows what little power it has from take off. Before you guys say it's my new Pirellis it wouldn't do it with my old almost bald firestones either.

I have been thinking about getting a SuperChip fr awhile. I had a DINAN performance chip in my old BMW and it made a huge difference (claimed 26hp). But it was a 5-speed so it didn't affect anything but the engine.

I have been told that the SuperChips will change the shift patterns on the AUTO
F-150s. Is this true? If so what does it change? Just the firmness of the shifting or at what RPM it shifts?

I have been told my truck has 195hp stock. i don't know if this is right or not. But how much of an HP increase could I expect over stock with the SUperChip and the K&N Drop-in?
And how much will it drop off of my 1/4 mile time? Also does the superchip affect the entire throttle range or just WOT?

By the way my truck is:

1993 F-150 Flare Side
2WD, 302, AOD, 48,000 Miles

THANKS!

The chip helped in the "mid-range" of my truck, but did not affect the shift pattern any. I don't think the ECU has a lot of control over our old AODs. Firmer shifts are probably going to require a "shift kit".

The biggest (and best) result of the chip was an increase in mileage of almost 2mpg.

I'd say the chip is worth the money.

Dear BMW325,

The Superchip does affect the shift characteristics of all computer-controlled automatics, and that started in the 93-94 model years, depending on the vehicle. If yours has a computer controlled automatic, then yes, the Superchip will do several things. It will remove the shift delay that Ford uses to soften and elongate the upshifts at heavy throttle; it will eliminate the power-robbing spark retard during and after upshifts; and finally, it will increase line pressure a bit, to firm up the upshift. As far as the exact power gains, on your 93 302 you will get 21 horsepower and 32 lbs./ft. of torque.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions on your specific vehicle.

BMW: Have you thought about an aftermarket exhaust system? I have duals on my 93, and am very happy with them. I noticed a lot of difference, and it isn't loud, convertor drowns the noise quite a bit. Plus its cheap.

Your truck will definitely run better. Mine did. I've got a flow master dual out exhaust that made quite a difference to. Unfortunately, being a 4x4, the shift points didn't firm up enough for my liking. For that, I'm going to need a mechanical shift kit. The only other suggestion I would make is to change your rear end gear to a 4.11:1. Sounds like a steep ratio, but it works nice for you set up with good around town and freeway driveability.

Actually, If I was you, I would stay with the 3:55 unless your planning for larger tires, or WAY more performance. You lose a lot more MPG if you lower your ratio. Think about a 3:73 if you do decide to replace.
