Dissapointed...
Well, I got my chip and was pleased to get it so fast. The good news stops there, however. I have a no start situation which I understand now seems to be pretty common. Before you even think it..I have fully prep'd the computer and am convinced it is the chip and not goop left on the terminals Etc. After removing everything four times (including battery and tray...AAARGH)it just won't wake up! Worse than that there is a dissclaimer of sorts that came in the package stating that I have to send my chip and my truck's computer back to have it fixed...I don't think so! I cannot risk this being lost in the mail nor can I fathom renting a car for a couple of days while this gets ironed out. I will get an RMA and ship the chip back. If they want to try programming again I will gladly try another now that all I have to do is plug it in...
Truly bummed!

After looking around this message board I believe or, at least hope, that I need the jumper location that enables the edge connecter soldered. This is something I can do easily if I can find out where the connection is....Mike?

Check another topic on MY TRUCK WONT START. Read the posts cuz it tells ya what to do.
Another thing, you gotta race some shovies and Rams and post the kills over in the D Victorys and Defeats topic!

Thanks..I will look again more carefully...
As for wins/losses I haven't met a truck I couldn't beat since the supercharger went on yet. I will gladly post anything worth mentioning but I gotta say beatin chevys and dodges isn't even worth writing about it's getting boring!!!

Well, I read thru every message but I still cannot find a description of where the jumpers are. I confess that since I found out about the jumper issue I have not removed the ECU to determine if it was an obvious find or not. If that's the case I will. Just don't want to waste my time if it requires info to know which contacts to solder....

You might want to e-mail him direct. mtroyer@compuserve.com Maybe he won't get mad at me for posting this on a weekend.

Actually used a continuity tester myself. On each conducter and on each side. I confess I am a computer systems engineer and am pretty familiar with this kind of work..even used a tool to remove the coating that is designed for just that type of work! I get good conduction all over the entire surface area of each pin just in case the chip only makes contact at certain points. I'm convinced that the "activation jumper" must not be "on". I am waiting to here if anyone can guide me to the correct sites on the PC board to do that...( I did send an E-Mail to Mike)...
Thanks though..I sure love the access to people with similar interests and experiences on this site!

A notice about this comes in every new Ford Superchip, along with instructions on what to do.
this is a portion of a post that mike made on the "TRUCK WON'T START" thread, there should of been instructions on what to do?

wynjammer,
I had the same problem with my 99' SD. I sent my computer back via UPS - sent it out at 6:30 in the evening, did without it the next day and had it in and running at 10:30 the following morning. It was an inconvenience doing without a truck for a day but it was well worth it. The tech people at superchips know their stuff and I felt more comfortable with them doing this than myself or a local television repair shop. However, I have seen post of people doing it themselves with no problems. I had superchips fax a picture of the board to me that shows where to solder or put a a jumper. They recommended that we go over the picture with the computer in front of me and them on the phone to make sure it was done correctly. I opted to send it to the experts.
Good luck,
Clif

wynjammer: this may sound repetative but are you sure you "scraped" all the plastic coating off the terminals??? I remember reading about someone else that swore he had scraped them real good but also had the no start. He used a circuit tester and some of them proved out to not be working. After scraping again & connecting the chip in, his truck started w/no problem.

Evening folk:
This is one of the things I like best about this site; everyone really tries to help. From a little after 9 AM to a little after 7 PM, multiple posts and a solution found to a really aggravating problem.
Course Mike is in there pitching on a Saturday too. That doesn't hurt!!

Wynjammer, I was hot too back in December when my new 5.4 Lariet wouldn't start after installing the chip. However two days later I got my computer and chip back from "superchips" and it was well worth the inconvinence. I have 6000 miles on the truck now and it just continues to amaze me how well this truck performs. I still recommend "Superchips" and Mike Troyer to all of my friends.

You are correct! It is much easier to show anger in type rather than on phone or even less in person. I could have avoided a lot of that had I known ahead of time about this potential problem. The notice that comes with the package lead me to believe that the computer and the chip needed to be tweaked to work together. Had I been aware of the jumper issue I would not have raised such a stink! I guess I didn't really read the detail in the "truck won't start" topic. At any rate I ask forgiveness for my irrationality I did not mean to make it personal. I also suffer from impatience and getting this thing on Friday and not being able to do anything with till Monday was tough for me...I always want it now..now..now..
Further more, though I know everyone meant well and was trying to help, I kept getting the same advise namely those things I already knew...
But enough of that!
Good news is that everything works fine now. I got the fax and did the solder work. I would venture to say that not even a ford tech would notice the change to the board as I was extremely carefull. The truck fire right up and tough I haven't had time to experiment yet I WILL let you all know...
Thanks again and again my appologies...To everyone!

Dear Wynjammer,
That was a very nice post, thanks! As I mentioned, it is indeed easy to let the heat of the moment get to you, especially when you're anxious to start enjoying everything that you've been reading about here. And in giving that some thought, I figured it might be a good time to remind everyone that I'm happy to help if I can, and I'm just a phone call away.
Wynjammer's situation (no-start over a weekend)*could* have been avoided by me having a copy of the 2 variants of the circuit boards here in my possession(sp?) so that I could have faxed them over directly, and got him up and running over the weekend. I have asked Superchips in the past to provide me with those materials, so I can disseminate them quickly, and immediately when needed. It's never been a real problem before, but just so everyone knows, I have spoken to them again today, and they have assured me that they will get those materials to me immediately, so they will be available quicker.
I'm happy to have you up and running, and I'll be very interested to hear how your custom program is working. For anyone who might not be aware, Wynjammer has an aftermarket supercharger installed on his vehicle, which is where he got his nickname! Those applications usually see even higher power gains, as the supercharger manufacturer in this case does not augment fuel delivery to compensate for the increased power levels, so I'll be looking forward to hearing what happens!
All's well that ends well,
