1/4 MILE TIMES OF A "NON" SUPERCHARGED F-150

Easy there killer, looks like someones a little grumpy today!!
Hot Rod six, I find it very hard to believe that your six cylinder truck can even break into the 16's.
I say this because I have seen many 4.2 and 4.6 trucks run at the local speedway on the weekends, where I go to run my Buick Grand National. I have seen trucks the same as yours, minus the 4.10 gears and they were lucky to hit 17.5 sec!! Most 4.6 auto. trucks ran mid 16's. I fail to see how adding 4.10 gears can make it that much quicker, in fact IMHO you are revving the crap out of a motor that should'nt be revved up that much.
I know that there is "only" a 10 hp differnce
but that additional 40+ ft/lbs of TORQUE makes a HUGE difference. I don't mean to call you a liar, but I do suggest you check and double check the accuracy of your times.

Gears:
Real world peak hp numbers of a 4.2 vs. 4.6 are very near identical(high 160's) If hotrod is 180hp then his #'s are good. Horsepower is what gets the job done, torque and horsepower are directly related. If you are dragg'n rpm's aren't a concern... E.T is what it's all about. I personally don't fancy the idea of running trucks but the 4.6 is not that much stronger than 4.2( about 10% more hp until near peak when it drops to about 2%) Let's all respect each others capacity to respond for themselves please. Run what you got but bigger is always better!

I know you can speak for yourself. I was making a joke that the Superchip would be the best improvement, without a doubt, and you get pissed about it? Come on, you say I need a life? Sorry, got one. Schools not to busy now because I have been on a 4 day break. I dont appreciate the though of you calling me a fool neither.

Gears - Don't believe my times? I just whipped a friend of mine last night with an identical truck to mine except it is a 4.6L V8. He doesn't give compliments very often, but he gave me one on the performance of my truck! I will post scans of my time slips for you later today along with my dyno runs.
Regarding "reving the crap" out of the motor, I have 4.30 gears, not 4.10s as you state. Remember that these trucks have 30" tall tires. That cuts the effective gear ratio to an equivalent of a 3.73 gear in a Mustang, for instance, not a very steep gear at all. I go through the traps at about 4100 rpm, far from "reving the crap" out of it. I cruise at 2500 rpm at 70 mph, also not "reving the crap" out of it.
You also state that I picked up "40 ft-lb" with the chip. Where did this come from? I stated that I picked up 11 hp and 13 ft-lb with the Superchips. See this thread...

I really wish people would let me speak for myself about my combination!!

Hotrodsix,
While this post is not meant to patronize you , I have noticed your 1/4 mile tmes previously. I believe they are accurate and quite obtainable for several reasons.
As an old amatuer "dragger" the most econonical, recognizable boost in speed is a low gear ratio like you have. It simply "launches" a vehicle from the line and I have been a victim on several occasions of a very low rear gear ratio in the past.
As you know they are ideal for the 1/4 mile. Your truck is also a reg cab with the minimum weight obtainable for an F150. With your gear, SuperChip and air intake mods I find your times to be excellent and quite obtainable, better than mine with a SC 4.6 V8 @ 16.29 @ 84.77 mph 1/4 mile pricipally due to your mods and weight-to-power ratio.
I responded to your post due to "first hand" knowledge and experiences on this very issue many times. I think the V-6s in a Reg cab are a very workable engine for mods and there is no substiture for immediate performance increase than a low rear gear ratio. Paired with a SuperChip, this combination will easily "raise some eyebrows."

Calm down buddy, I believe you. Guess I need to get down to a track and get my truck clocked, I'm interested to see how it would do. Bet I would be one of the few out there in a 4 wheel drive. Guess I should've done this back when I first got the truck, cause I got all the stuff on it now.

Andthensometoo - I was there that day! I was parked next to BABOLT. I was bummin' because no one took notice of my little V6 when there was so many cool Lightnings to look at!!!
Here is a picture of my truck from that day. Notice the Ford flags in the background that were hung up at the F-150 Online area!

mudder - I post my photos to the zing.com site. You can create your own photo albums there. Your album will show thumbprints of your photos and you get an enlarged slide show when you click on a photo. I just copy the image location of the thumbprint sized photo and paste it into my post.
BABOLT turned me on to zing.com and it is a great site!
