Question Chip Install For a 2000...HELP!

Hey Folks, I'm the proud owner of a new chip but in my lameness, can't figure out how to get it installed. I've looked up the install pix here and it seems that my computer is buried WAY UP the side of the passenger side firewall and almost unreachable. I ended up removing the side trim kick panels and short of removing the dashboard, can't get at it. What am I doing wrong? Anybody else already install a chip on a 2000 5.4? Any and all help with detailed walk-me-through-it instructions and even pictures is appreciated. I don't want to mess up the install or my truck, :-o

Fritz – It DOES help, thanks. My problem is how far up the firewall the computer is mounted. What did you have to remove to get at it? I can barely get my hand up there as it is.

John – Mine arrived 6 days after I ordered it. And, yes, that sticker on the passenger door jamb is your code. It has 4 characters and a bar code on it.

The computers are mounted in the same place on all 1997 & later F-150's, and that is, just above the passenger kick panel. Fritz was kind enough to write the basic steps, (thanks Fritz!)except after his step#5, which is loosening the 10mm bolt, you then remove the wiring harness from the front of the computer *before* you procede to step#6.

You shouldn't have any trouble getting to the computer in this location.

Dear John,

In answer to your question, it takes very little time to make the chip, most orders ship same day if it's not a custom application. Just give us a call for details, our number is below.

I found a place locally that sells them. I phoned in my computer code, they downloaded the firmware from SuperChips, burned a chip for me, and I went down and picked it up. It took me about 20 minutes to install.

Today (before the chip install), I calculated my pre-chip fuel mileage at 16.02 miles per gallon. I'll be going from San Diego to Redding this coming weekend - when I get back from the trip the following weekend, I'll report back on my post-chip mileage.

For anyone in San Diego, "The Dyno Shop" Oon Prospect Avenue in Santee is where I got it. Oh yeah, it cost $265.

How long does it take for them to make your chip?

Where's the computer code on a 2000 model F-150? Is it that sticker on the front of the passenger door frame?

One step I saw omitted in the install procedures above: Cleaning of the EPROM contacts. Important step, or chip won't work.

The computer is tucked way up inside the passenger foot well. Removing the kick panel improved access, but wasn't necessary, as I later learned. I had that computer in and out a few times for various reasons, and got to be a pro at it without removing the kick panel.
