Dear Mark,
I've gotta make a quick run out to my doctor's office this afternoon, but I'll check on your WKR3 code as soon as I get back in, and let you know!
And congrats on your new V-10, WOW!

Ohhh yeah.. BTW: SUPERCHIPS IS closed untill Jan 3rd so I dont think Mike can find out if the chip is ready for your truck. You can give them a call yourself on the 3RD instead of waiting. Just a idea

Dear Mark,
Superchips does not have the WKR3 code done yet, but it will be available shortly.
White Knight, we are not limited in operation capability or knowledge just because Superchips the manufacturer is closed for the holidays, we're the National Distributor. As such, we supply many other dealers in addition to end users, so we have to be operational at all times. We have always had the capability to make the chips from scratch right here for many years, we have all the files right here, and I have access to any Superchips people I need at home if need be. So don't worry that we cannot provide needed information, or that we cannot perform our duties in any way, we do not have those limitations.

Thanks Mike,
I can wait, and may not even need the chip. The V10 is certainly not short on power. I through a 2500lb camper on it, nearly flattened the overload springs, and could still climb steep grades in OD. I suppose the 4.30 gearing helps a bit too. But I would like firmer shifting. I will have to compare a shift kit versus the superchip.
Thanks,
Mark

Dear Mark,
You're very welcome. A shift kit can raise the line pressure, and I use one myself, a Transgo kit. But it cannot remove what causes the slippage at heavy throttle, which is Ford's upshift delay, that elongates and softens the upshifts. Then there is the power-robbing spark retard that occurs in numerous places in the factory program, like during and just after the upshift.
In terms of which product can most improve the transmission characteristics, it's the Superchip hands down. It will remove the upshift and downshift delays, remove the spark retards, firm up the shifts, and of course increase engine power substantially. A Transgo shift kit, which I personally feel is one of the best for Ford automatics, can increase line presure and thus firm up the upshift once it actually executes, after the delay in the factory program.
You have plenty of time to check things out, and decide what you prefer to do. A lot of people prefer not to install shift kits to their vehicles under warranty, since it's a mechnical modification, but that's up to you. You may decide that a shift kit is better for you that running premium gas all the time with the Superchip, that's of course an individual decision. I myself run both the Superchip *and* a Transgo shift kit! In my case, I installed the shift kit as a "band-aid", so I could hold off the rebuild a bit longer, as I've got a glazed 1-2 clutch pack, and it's worked very well for that.
You have no idea how many V-10 owners call me wishing they had the 4.30 gears instead of the 3.73, I'm so glad you went that way, and I'm sure you are too. Good move!
The V-10 in the pickup trucks got a power increase for 2000, they went up from 290 hp to 310 hp stock. That kind of power pulling only a 2500 lb. trailer, it probably feels like you're not pulling anything at all!
Have fun, and best of luck whatever you decide!
