You're very welcome, Tony. You *should* have seen it earlier, so the least we could do was to overnight it out to you, to try and get the egg off my face!

Have fun, & be careful while you're checking out your new power levels.

Dear Redwing,

Yes, I had a second-generation (1994) Tbird SC, with that supercharged V-6. They got updated in 1994 with a better blower with teflon rotors, bigger injectors, a windage tray for the crankshaft, etc. I ran 17 PSI boost in mine! I think the 89-93 models actually looked better, the last two years (94-95) just ran a bit better. They were awesome vehicles.

A 74 460 Tbird?? Excellent! Those were very nice vehicles, very fast, and very luxurious as well, I'd love to have one now. Those 460's love to warp the exhaust manifolds, did you have to replace yours?

Cool

Mike,

My '74 T'bird was driven about 25 miles(to my dads garage). There I removed it for a rebuild to power the f-250.
I had it bored .030, balanced, then installed a .510 lift cam with 290* duration.
stock manifolds, and a Holley 780 cfm.

Then the install was a full custom all the way down to home made motor mounts. All done by myself. 4" suspension lift and c-6 auto with shift kit. No Headers available for that app. so I drove it to a local muff. shop with 6" of pipe off the manifolds!!I get an ear to ear grin just thinking about how it sounded. They quieted it "WAY" down with 18" glass packs and 2" true duals to the bumper.(I literaly broke 2 plates in my dads cupboards from the vibration). Then I didn't like the High RPM power band so I advanced the valve timing 16 degrees. This was the perfect setup for a street sleeper. It totaly covered the lope at idle so nobody new what was in it. I will say the 1/2 shift required all my attention, the 2/3 shift gave about 10' of black marks!!!

I could tell enough stories about this truck to make our own NEAL proud.
4x4 tire smokeing hole shots with 14x36 mud tires.(4.10ls)
The best kill by far was a mid 80's z28 but that woudn't sound to suprising untill I tell you that I was towing my 21' 4000lb boat when I dusted him!!!!!
No disrespect intended but,,,Neal is not the only H.P. freak here.
Sorry to ramble but that truck brings back many memories. And no I never had any warped
manifolds.

Take care,

Redwing

One more thing, When Tony G. says your 'chip made his trans. shift "PERFECT" That is a huge compliment. You may not know that he is a sought after "hired gun" at our local dragstrip. So he's got a much better feel for his truck than most of us.

Dear Redwing,

Hmm, a *built* 460 with stock manifolds, and you didn't have warpage problems, excellent! I wonder then if it's due to the heat retained under the hood when they're packaged so tightly into those older Tbirds and Lincoln Marks, as they will virtually *all* warp in those vehicles. Perhaps having more room under the hood, etc., allowed them to not warp.

That sounds like one helluva F-250! I would have loved to have seen you pulling that big boat and walking away from the Z, that would have been hilarious. Smoking all 4 is also an extremely rare sight.

I'm glad Tony's happy. Those transmissions are fine, it's just that their programming sucks so bad, that it's hard sometimes to accept just how much better they can feel with good programming, until you actually experience it.

Have fun,
