Question Chip for 4x2 or 4x4 with same code???

Is is ok for a 2000 f-150 4x4 and a 4x2 to use the same code.. With a superchip would it cause a different shift pattern between the 4x4 and the 4x2? What has f-150 owners experianced?

You cannot use a Superchip on a vehicle whose code does not match the Superchip, if that's where you are going with this. You can only use a Superchip made specifically for the same code as your vehicle. If you try to run a different code Superchip on it, you'll get absolutely nothing, the engine won't even start.

In other words, if you have a 2000 F-150 with a 5.,4 automatic and a code of ATC2, NOTHING but an ATC2 code Superchip is going to work on it. You cannot install a Superchip of a different code, even if it's for the exact same vehicle, it won't work.

Conversely, some guys here have been able to pick up on used Superchips with the same code as their vehicle. FOr example, an ATC2 code Superchip will work on any vehicle with the same computer code, ATC2, and so on.

I hope that helps your understanding, and give me a shout if I can be of assistance!

Cobra99,

All engine and tranny controlled functions a controlled by the PCM. Any unique functions for a 4x4 are controlled by the GEM. Superchips modifies the PCM not the GEM. If I understand the code system any PCM2 (my truck code) code will be identical on any truck regardless of the drivetrain. If Ford feels that a 4x4 should shift differently than a 4x2 then the codes would be different.

FWIW, my 4x2 4.6L 5-spd has a PCM2 computer.
