Just got my PCM back from Superchips Custom Tuning and I've only had a short time to try it out on the road this morning. My program was Tow-Perf on 91 octane. Its like I bought a completely different vehicle. Shift points are up, no lag in the throttle, and LOTS more I'm sure to see in the next few days. Much quicker gettin to 60 mph.
Mike and all at Troyer and Superchips,Ya did good!
I am a happy 2004 F-150 driver.

DAMN, your from Yucaipa huh? That's where I grew up from 78 - 82, went to YHS then into the Navy for 10 years then ended up in New Hampshire...
Anyway with Yucapia being so small I thought it was pretty cool seeing someone from there. My parents still live there.
Have a lot of fun with your new toy...

Yes, Yucaipa ROCKS!
You might know one of my Sons. Orrin is the eldest and then
Douglas. Anderson is the last name. I'm an old fart, 60. Been in town since 76'. They went throught Yucaipa Hi also about your time frame.
Feel like a kid with a new toy with this truck. Orrin has a nice Mustang. You get back here once in a while? Worked for GTE but now Big "V".
Your ride looks Very NICE too!

Last week I purchased from Troyer Perforanmce a Superchip Microtuner 9100, but for some reason the tuner kept giving me an error message when I tried to tune my truck. The folks at Troyer said they've experienced this same problem with other 97 Expies. They recommended the 6600 Custome 4 Program Superchip (I have an 87 tow perfect, 89 tow perfect, 93 tow perfect, & 93 performance). I was skeptical, but this thing is sweet
This is the best $350 I've ever spent on mods. I just installed it earlier this morning. The 93 performance tune is sweet. There is a very noticable increase power and the shifts are firmer, but not jarring. The Expy just wants to continue accelerating since the speed limiter is now eliminated or substancially increased. The 93 tow perfect actually feels like it has more torque at all RPMs with the shifts occurring at higher RPMs.
Simply an awesome chip.

Hi Larry,
Glad you're enjoying the tuning for your 2004 F-150 - on 91 octane, they typically gain well over 20 HP at the wheels (peak), and the improvement in low-end power, overall driveability and throttle response is just what the 2004's need.
On 93 octane, of course they gain even more - typically 24-27 Hp at the wheels. Our 4x4 ended up at 247 HP & 350 lbs./ft. of torque at the rear wheels with just tuning, up from stock readings of 219-221 HP & 287 lbs./ft. of torque.
Have fun!

Hi TampaBlack99,
The 2004 F-150 uses the Black Oak PCM, based on the Power PC - which has no J3 connector to use a traditional "chip" like the EEC4 & EEC-5 PCM's have always had.
The only way to change the tuning in the 2004 F-150 (the new body style) is to "flash" the PCM's internal EEPROM - this can currently be done only by sending in the PCM to be flashed, but in a couple of months will also be done via the new 1714 Micro Tuner connecting to the OBD-II port under the dash.
The tuning in the 2004 F-150 is *vastly* different from all previous F-150's, and how the additional power is gained is also vastly different as well - the same techniques that work to gain power in previous F-150's do *not* work in the 2004 F-150's.
The bottom line is, we're able to get very nice power gains in the 2004 F-150's thought the entire rpm range and at any throttle position, so it works very well.
Just FYI...............

Hi 97Expy1,
That is absolutely correct, and your vehicle was one of the units we found issues with - what he's talking about here is that we have just recently seen a hardware issue with the 9100 custom Micro Tuner on some 1997 Expy's. It's only some certain 1997 Expy's at that, but for those owners, for right now, we're recommending if those owners want our in-depth custom tuning to get maximum power, performance and mpg gains (as you did in your case), they use our 6600 4-program custom chip.
In your case, you've got our 87 octane tow-safe tune, then an 89 octane tow-safe tune, and then a 93 octane tow-safe tune - those 3 tunes can be used for towing, or for just "normal" vehicle operations as well - you don't have to be towing to use them. Then last, you've also got a 93 octane maximum performance tune that is *not* for towing, so you'll have maximum performance when not hauling a big load. So you've got tunes for every octane & type of vehicle use, all available instantly at the turn of the ****.![Smilie](https://www.f150online.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Thanks for your post, glad to hear you're enjoying our custom tuning!
