Post 2001 PSD chip ?

Hi. My 2001 Excursion PSD book says it has 20 more HPs and now 505fpt. So if it has more power then the 2000 (last years) then the SuperChip for sale right now will not work..?

I Emailed SuperChip two weeks ago, but they did not reply. Seems like not a good place.

Does any one know what Ford did for the up the power? And has anyone chiped a 2001 PSD ?
I hear there is a "boost tube". How much more power does it make and does the chip need to be set-up for the tube ?

In adavance THANKS... Semper-Fi

Yeah, sometimes it is hard to get a hold of someone there.

What you need to do is get the computer catch code off of your drivers door, then call them to see if one is available

Hi Mr. 351 C,

We enjoyed speaking with you on the phone today. (At least, I think that was you! )

The Powerstroke has always been very de-tuned by Ford, and we're always going to be able to pick up substantial power gains on this motor, most likely. As a matter of fact, the first 2001 Powerstroke is on the chassis dyno starting today! So we'll know here pretty quickly what if anything they changed that is substantial, we know the programming has changed, but the relatively minor power gains they made won't interfere with us doing what we do. Back in the 1999 model year when they made those changes to the Powerstroke diesels, we were then able to make *more* power gains, not less, so don't assume that because the factory increases the power that this automatically negates any tuning we do, as that is not the case. Track record on the PSD has been just the opposite, in fact.

One note on sending Superchips email; they are a very busy manufacturer, and some days they get hundreds upon hundreds of emails, and right now especially. We are not only at thw very height of racing season, but we're also at the beginning of a new model year, which are the 2 very busiest times for this type of industry, just to try and give you a bit of perspective on their response times to email. Here at Performance we are very quick about responding to email, Superchips Inc. just can't respond that quickly with their workload at the beginning of a new model year & the peak of eracing season, so please don't be offended if you don't get a timely response. You can always shoot us an email, and we'll try to assist if we can.

With regards to your question about the use of the "boost tube", that is only on certain models, and that started in the 1999 model year. The boost tube on the appropriate models is used in conjunction with the Superchip, so yes, the Superchip is programmed specifically for it in the appropriate applications. They have changed the programming on some of the 2000 Powerstroke Superchip programs so that the boost tube is not required on all 2000's, but this will depend on the computer code of the particular vehicle. They usually send out the boost tube with every PSD Superchip anyway, so the ones that need it will of course always get it. Whether or not the 2001 will require it remains to be seen, as that R&D on the chassis dyno literally started this morning.

Just a quick update, the dyno session on the 2001 Powerstroke once again showed huge gains available, as they have always been with the PSD motors.

So once again, the Superchips for the 2001 PSD will be offered in several power levels, and basically, as much power as you could ever want is readily available.
