I have been working with Hypertech on a few problems that they were having with a particular chip for a 97 F150 Auto 4.6L 2WD. The program that they have now for me (which I am currently running) is quite impressive. It seems that both Hypertech and Superchips have a problem with the chip staying seated on the service port of the computer. Some folks suggest that you bend the lip up and it will stay others suggest Duct Tape, also a good ides. Hypertech, to the best of my knowledge, is working on a solution for this problem.

My question to you is what type of truck do you have and what kind of performance are you looking for?

Thanks for the reply. I have a 97 XLT SC 4.6L 2WD. I have installed a K&N filter and a Gibson Super Truck Cat Back Exhaust.

I'm looking for a little more quickness across the rpm range. More low end push. Better acceleration as well as merging/passing capability. The Gibson seems to have helped with this one.

Any thoughts?

That's the same chip program that I have. I am quite impressed with it. Good throttle response and impressive passing gear shifts. The truck really seems to get mean and wants to really run above 50mph when the O/D is turned off.

Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

A couple of more questions.

Did you install yourself?
If so how difficult?
Do you use Premium gas?
Any noticable mileafge improvements?

Yes I installed myself and it is quite easy. Go to http://home.midsouth.rr.com/lightningpage for a full tutorial on how to install the chip, not difficult at all. 30 min including the cleaning of the contacts. Yes you have to use Premium gas..93 octane or higher to avoid pings in the engine. This is only my first tank on the modified program and I haven't done the math on mileage yet. Before on my old program I did see a 1.5 to 2 mpg increase. Not bad for a lead foot.

Can a Hypertech adjust the speedo, odo, shift points, etc. for larger tires?

Mine is a '98 and I can still change out the tranny 'driven gear' ('99+, all computer controlled), but I really hate to have to put out more dollars for this process. Would love to just have the chip take care of it.

From what is on Hypertech's website, they have programmers available for the 98 F150's for about $400 bucks. This programmer will enable you to change al lof what you are wanting. I am not sure but I think the chip has a "standard" unless requested when ordering. State what type of mods you have and they can probably adjust the chip program for you if you don't want the programmer. http://www.hypertech-inc.com/cgi-bin...F150&year=1998

Good Luck

FrankP:

I believe that both of them essentially have the same programming. I don't have any experience with the SuperChip chip but I am very happy with my Hypertech chip.
