2004 F-150 Micro Tuner shipping NOW!

To All 2004 F-150/Expedition owners:

(Note: This post was edited after it was first posted a couple days ago)

The 1714 Micro Tuner for the 2004 F-150 (both the Heritage models and the new body style 2004's, including both the 4.6 and the 2-valve and 3-valve 5.4 V8's) is now shipping!!

We can now confirm the exact date - they are now on their way to us, and those who act quickly can have them in their hands by Friday, in time for the weekend! (See my post from today further down in this thread for all the details.)

We're proud that we here at Troyer Performance have contributed to the tuning that will be in the 1714 Micro Tuner for the 2004 3-valve 5.4 F-150's.

Those who have not already officially placed their orders with us for the 2004 Ford Truck & SUV Superchips Micro Tuner #1714 need to do so right away, as these units are in heavy demand and short supply already. It's strictly first come, first served, so that everyone gets treated fairly - just as we always do with each new Superchips release.

PLEASE DO NOT put up posts asking for pricing - just as a reminder even though everyone here already knows this, it's against the rules of F-150 Online for us to discuss any specific parts pricing here. So as always, for that information you will need to call us at our number listed below with your F-150 Online screen name, as there is a special discount for *registered* members of F-150 Online (that applies *ONLY*to Superchips "MAX" series Micro Tuners like the 1714 & 1715). To get that discount, you will be required to provide your F-150 Online registered screen name & other info for us to verify, as each will be checked at the time the order is taken. Remember, it costs you *nothing* to register to become a member at this great web site, so if you haven't registered already, please do so right now so we can provide you with that special discount!

The power gains on the 3-valve 5.4 F-150 for 2004 from the tuning in the 1714 Micro Tuner are a 20 HP & 32 lb./ft. increase in PEAK horsepower and torque over stock at the rear wheels. In the lower rpm ranges the power gains are even higher, with maximum gains running as high as 24 HP and 40 lbs./ft. of torque at the rear wheels.

We are taking orders RIGHT NOW for these units, so anyone that wants one should get their order in just as quickly as possible.

Your wait is over, 2004 F-150 owners (and 2004 gas engine SuperDuty & Expedition owners) - get your orders in now!

Question

Mike,

Is the 1714 going to address the hesitation issue caused by the “throttle by wire”?

Thanks

ok

ie- the 1715 micromax tuner covers v-8s from 97-03- it basically has hundreds of codes in it- sucks out your tune and uploads new tune for your code- it's an improvement over stock definetly!- now say a 9100 custom tuner is like having 3 different burnt chips but in a form of a tuner- mike is able to extract maximum hp of your code- hope this helps-phil

Hi Everyone,

We just put the 1714 (the Superchips "MAX" Micro Tuner for the 2004 Ford F-150 & SuperDuty gas engine, trucks & SUV's) up on our web site yesterday, so some of you may not have seen the details yet - it's there now.

Just to let everyone know the exact status, the 1714's ARE SHIPPING TO US TODAY!!! (Tuesday, July 27th 2004.) What that means is the 1714 Micro Tuners will arrive here either tomorrow or Thursday, and then we'll be shipping them out immediately to all of our customers & dealers who have placed orders.

IMPORTANT - For anyone that wants their new 1714 for their 2004 F-150 in time for THIS WEEKEND, that CAN BE DONE for those who want to enjoy the improved performance and throttle response right now! Getting it in your hands by Friday will require UPS Red overnight shipping - Saturday delivery is also available in many areas at a slight additional cost over normal UPS Red overnight service, so those who cannot call us until Friday can still get it in time for the weekend IF Saturday UPS delivery is available in your area. We'll verify Saturday delivery availability in your area with you when you place your order with us over the phone, so you'll know up front.

Keep in mind that in order for us to be able to make that timeframe so you can have your 1714 in time for this weekend, we suggest that you CALL US with your order at our number listed below, and we suggest you do that right away. For UPS delivery by Friday, we suggest you have your order placed with us by phone no later than 2:30 pm (Eastern) on Thursday. For Saturday UPS delivery, have your order called in to us by no later than 2:30 pm (Eastern) on Friday - and keep in mind that Saturday UPS delivery is not available everywhere, so call us to check to see if it's available to your specific address!

For those who need to place their orders with us on our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - For delivery by Friday, have your order placed with us by no later than 3 pm (Eastern time) on Thursday. For those who need to place their online orders on Friday for Saturday delivery, figure that you'll need to place your ONLINE order at www.TroyerPerformance.com by no later than 12 Noon on Friday for Saturday delivery (again, that is *if* Saturday UPS delivery is available in your area, which you won't know for certain unless you call us).

Regarding the availability of Saturday UPS delivery - Usually a city with any real size/population has Saturday UPS delivery available, but call us to make certain. Though we suggest calling us with your order for fastest service, we'll of course make our best efforts to get the online orders out ASAP, too.

Next - on the subject of the custom version of the CAN Flasher for the 2004 F-150........................ That unit is still going to be a while. It has significantly different internals (electronics) from the 1714, so it's going to be a while yet for those. We're hoping to *maybe* see that by the end of August, but it's one of those things where the hardware design is still being finalized - and after hardware design is "finalized," then the initial prototypes are produced & "final" testing can then begin. All of that takes time of course, so it could be well into September or later before the custom versions are actually shipping. One thing that some will want to keep in mind regarding deciding between the 1714 versus our custom tuning for the 2004 F-150 is that the cost difference is going to be more in the 2004's than it is currently in the 1996-2003 models. The difference in cost between the "standard" Superchips performance tuning in the 1714 (which we had some input in) and our custom tuning in the custom CAN flasher version down the road will be *more* than it currently is for the 1996-2003 vehicles (don't ask "how much?" here, as we can't discuss specific pricing here on the boards - call us for that info). This is due to the additional complexity of the custom programming in the 2004 PCM programs. But take heart, as the 1714's gains are already excellent, and will make many 3-valve 5.4 owners *much* happier with their vehicle's performance and overall throttle response - and the 1714 doesn't cost any more than the 1715!

Next - for those who want to know about what *every* 2004 3-valve 5.4 owner's main gripe is............... YES! The 1714 DOES address the inherent slow throttle response issue of the 2004 3-valve 5.4's, so those who go for the 1714's are going to be happy with the results. Despite the 400-600 lbs. of additional weight of the 2004 over the previous body style F-150's, you're still going to see about a half-second (or more, depending on exact vehicle configuration, gearing & tires) off the 1/4 mile times, as well as all the usual benefits - the top speed limiter removed, shifting vastly improved, better mpg when not using heavy throttle, etc., etc. The 1714 is delivering more horsepower and torque all the time, at any throttle position or rpm, with even higher power gains in the lower rpm ranges than the excellent 20+ HP peak gains at the rear wheels - just what the 2004 needs.

Now some general tips so everyone can access them here anytime once they get their 1714's..................

For setting up the WOT (Wide Open Throttle) upshift points - once again, for most people we advise leaving them at the default uploads to get started with. Here's the details on getting the best full-throttle acceleration................... with a stock torque converter in the 3-valve 5.4, using a 5400 rpm 1-2 & 2-3 WOT upshift point (leave the 3-4 no higher than about 4700) will get you the best/quickest full-throttle acceleration. For 3-valve 5.4 trucks with a good intake system and a cat-back exhaust AND an better aftermarket performance torque converter, *then* you could use a 5600 rpm 1-2 upshift point and get the absolute best WOT acceleration, due to the huge drop in transmission gear ratios from 1st to 2nd - but leave the 2-3 at no more than 5400 rpm. (Just as a reminder regarding intake kits for the 2004 3-valve 5.4's, we test each one as it comes out, and to date the only intake kit that is designed & working properly and actually adding real power *without* causing the engine to go lean is the current generation Airaid unit, which we also carry.) The 3-4 WOT upshift shouldn't be any higher than 4700-4800 rpm, and as always with *stock* overdrive automatics, full-throttle 3-4 upshifts aren't advised at all - instead, we suggest that you lockup Overdrive, and then let off the throttle once you hit 4700 rpm in 3rd gear (at which point you'll be flying), turn O/D back on and let 4th gear (Overdrive) engage, and *then* get back into the throttle if location & circumstances are appropriate to permit vehicle operation at those speeds.

Stock WOT upshift points for the 1-2 & 2-3 in the 2004 3-valve 5.4's are 4800-4900 rpm, with some indicating just below 5000 rpm on the factory tach. That is just a tad below where we saw the motor's peak power occurring in our dyno testing. In our dyno testing, we saw the horsepower peaking on bone-stock 3-valve 5.4 trucks at about 5000-5050 rpm or so, and just a tad higher (say, 5100-5150 or so) with a good intake & exhaust added.

OK gang, that's it for now - for those who want their 1714 Micro Tuner in time to use this weekend, we suggest calling us right away at our number listed below!

Does this unit need to be plugged in at all times, or do you reprogram the ECU and then disconnect the unit?

Does anyone know if it will adjust the speedo for larger tires?

And also, can it be adjusted to accomodate the changing of the gears from 3.73 to 4.56?

Thanks in advance!

What about the throttle lag on the 4.6? They only mention the 5.4.
