New custom CAN Flasher for new F-150's released!
#16
Hi CE,
Yes, we sure will - it'll take a few weeks for us to get everything on the web site updated - we also have to do all the updates for the 2005 model year, etc., so at about this time each year, we've got a *lot* of work to do on the web site - and there's *always* only about 2% of what we carry & what we do listed on the web site anyway - just FYI.
So yes, we'll certainly be doing a number of Stage packages including the custom tuning for the 2004 & newer F-150's based on the XCalibrator. If your timing is such that you want to do a Stage kit based on the XCalibrator now, that's not a problem - feel free to give us a call and we can put that together for you, you don't have to wait for that to be listed on our web site.
On the status of the AF1 intake kit for the 2004 & up 3-valve 5.4 F-150.......................... - we will be testing the latest prototype tomorrow (Wednesday, November 3rd). If we're happy with the results, it can go into production within about a month from that date - so *if* everything goes as planned (Murphy's Law notwithstanding), we'll know by the end of the day tomorrow if the current design prototype is doing exactly what we want it to or not. Doing the R&D for AF1 on this kit is time-consuming, and fun - AF1 is very responsive, and cares deeply about making sure their new intake is actually safe to use, something a number of manufacturers did *not* do on the new 3-valve 5.4 F-150's. So..........that's the latest on the new AF1's R&D status.
Have fun & talk to you soon!

When it arrives I need to take my ride to the dealer and get a stock tune back in the PCM. Then we can play.

Still Waiting
jpdadeo,
E-mailed Anita last night and this AM she said Mike was backed up and its on his desk. She said they are working on them as fast as they can and it will be out asap. So its good to know whats going on and that I'm not in a real hurry.
Got a look on the Motorcraft.com web site and I see that if your really into it you can order a subscription for PCM upgrades and download them to your PC. They also show two recommended interfaces so that your PC can talk to you PCM and drop the download to it, just like the dealer. It also covers reading and resetting codes and PATS too. But its a bit pricey! The subscription is only $24 for a 72 hour download window but the cheapest interface is about $1K. A little too much for me, Har!
Ordered a Scanguage yesterday, that willl do nicely for me. Got my Helm workshop manual and PCM/electronics manual last week. That was a bit costly but WELL worth the effort. Give them a try.
I'll let you all know when I get the 9300 and how the dealer reacts to my request for a PCM flash. My build date is 07/03 so they should show I need updatiing.

Hey, what a day to day, got 12 inches of snow here at my home in Yucaipa!
They said a little rain and then when I hear my Ash tree go "Crack" about 5:30 AM it was all over...and on the ground. Good thing there is no tree near my F-150.
Lots of downed trees that stilll had not dropped their leaves. Snow was heavy and wet. So much for washing the truck.

Hello Gentleman,
What happened was (and we had no idea of this at the time we announced) that when we flashed a 2004 3-valve F-150 with this new hardware, if that truck had been reflashed at a dealership, the vehicle would start & run, but on some of them, the engine would immediately go into failsafe mode - it was a problem that didn't happen when tuning a 2004 3-valve 5.4 that had NOT been updated (reflashed) at a dealership - and it didn't affect all that *had* been reflashed - just some of them, and we only found this when tuning more units that had been reflashed.
So given the fact that there are a significant number of 2004's that have been reflashed, we decided not to send any out until we knew *all* of them would work correctly - and each day we thought we had it solved, and tested another change, and another change, etc.
In other words, it bit us right when we needed it the least - just after the hardware manufacturer had told us it's ready to go and we got the first units & made the announcement - Murphy's Law, go figure!
I had called some of the 2004 owners who are waiting on their custom tuning orders to let them know (like John) what was happening, but didn't quite get to everyone - my apologies!
John (jpdadeo), as you will remember from our last conversation I think last Friday or so, we were hoping to have that solved on Monday - it went well, but it just took until Wednesday morning to get solved. We have now tested a number of reflashed vehicles and it's now working fine on all of them - and the manufacturer has also gone back and tested on numerous other reflashed 2004's as well - so we can now start cranking out the custom tunes that our 2004 owners have been waiting on.
Everyone will know when their XCalibrator ships by virtue of the fact that our UPS software automatically sends out an email with a tracking number for the shipment on the day that shipment is processed here - so as long as we have your email address, you'll get an automatic email notification - anyone who is waiting on their 2004 custom tune and has not given us their email address can shoot that info to us so you'll get your trucking # when it ships.
So that's the scoop - thanks very much for your patience everyone, & they'll go out very shortly now!

Got the shipping conformation email this past Friday for the 9300 I ordered. Should have it Tuesday night if all goes well. I’ll be using the 87-octane performance tune until it’s time to re-fuel: got about ½ a tank left, then it will be the 93-octane; can hardly wait cause I got a feeling it’s going be awesome. Will definitely post the seat of the pants results shortly after.

Waiting patiently
Well, got a call from Mike last week, Wednesday I believe. He said that as I had a stage I tune I needed to get it back to factory before he could finish my Xcalibrator. He needed to have the new factory release number to finish.
So got that done today and e-mailed Mike tonight. Drove home with the Factory tune and it sure reminded me how good Troyer is with their Superchip Tunes. So, jpdadeo, let us know when your arrives. Hope mine is here by weeks end.
The sevice rep was at first hesitant to listen to me asking for a reflash. But I handed him a copy of the TSB 04-21-14 and said this is why. He asked me "Do you have this problem?" I said "Why yes! certainly do! " (lie) but it got the job done. Had they test driven my truck first I would have been found out. Also have had a minor front end shudder when braking so asked them to do another TSB 04-15-1 for the rotors.
The service rep didn't know what to think of me pulling the TSB's on him but got the rotos turned and keep an eye on it for now. If it returns then back for another machining until they replace the rotors.
By the way, the factory release I got this time is 4U7A - 12A650 - ACD.
Know the 4U7A is the release but not sure what the rest of the numbers mean.
