I think you are lucky you changed the chip out when you did if you were hearing a knock (pinging). Too much of that & bad things happen.

Good luck with it bro.

You probably shouldn’t have left it in so long if it’s been knocking. I suggest you give Troyer Performance a call and get an Xcalibrator . Mikes custom tunes are second to none; he’s the tune maestro

the shop aint open today but imma call em tomorrow when they are and get em to fix the chip. its been like this a year and they kept giving me a run around. but it really only nocked at above 4500RPM and only when i didnt use 93 or greated and i did till i lost job and so moneys been tight for past 6 months so ive been runnin 87 which runs fine if i keep the RPM low. but it runs fine for now but i miss the firm shift theres an extra 500RPM drop between gears now like before. and i can get a dyno tune on my chip for my specific mods for less then mike wants for his "custom tune"... no offence to him though.

Sounds like you shoulda taken it out six months ago. If it's programmed for premium and you were runnin' regular, you're looking for touble.

it nocked about the same with premium as it did without. but i kept the RPM low so i never got much nock no more then usual its better when its not humid. but i dont abuse my truck. and fords dont have much problems with spark nock damaging them... teflon coating on the pistons and walls to prevent damage

Hi FasterF-150,

Uh, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but I'm betting that what little Teflon coating existed at one time on those pistons skirts is long gone by now - Do you know what the PTS (piston to sidewall clearance) is with hypereutectic pistons is to begin with in these Ford modular motors?

My friend, using a premium gas chip on 87 octane is NEVER even remotely a smart thing to do - that is literally *begging* for engine failure, and I can guarantee you that your rod bearings (and probably the crank bearings, too) are shot - and the #4 & #8 exhaust valves (at a minimum) probably don't look very nice, either. You'll be darned lucky if you have not caused serious engine damage - I can virtually guarantee that if I tore that engine down, I could show you numerous areas of damage caused by what you have done.

Never try to use the rationalization that because the piston skirts had a tad of Teflon coating on them when new that there won't be damage from detonation.

My suggestion is to learn a LOT more about these vehicles, and about internal combustion gasoline engines in general (with specific emphasis on Ford modular motors), or at least spend a lot of time here with the rest of us reading posts here before doing any more modifications.

You're welcome to use whoever you want, but shopping for tuning based on price is one of the absolute worst mistakes you can ever make, and will also never provide the kinds of results we do - people come to us to pay for our *expertise*, and they do not suffer engine damage or expect a slight dash of Teflon on a hypereutectic piston skirt with a 0.001 PTS clearance to make detonation OK so they can run cheap rot-gut 87 octane on a 93 octane tune, etc.

In short, your post contains a number of mistakes and errors that lead me to believe that you have probably damaged your engine - damage would clearly be seen in a teardown, and that you may not fully understand what you have done - HOWEVER - and please keep this mind, as I'm really trying to help you here - not knowing these things is no sin, and doesn't make you a "bad" person by any means - not at all! Many people are in the same boat, of course - just like I would make a very poor dentist, for example!!

But please understand that what you have done is dead wrong, and has most likely caused your engine to suffer damage - and going on a message board proclaiming what you have posted here is not very productive, as the LAST thing you should want is for others to make the same mistakes thinking that somehow what you are saying makes what you've done perfectly OK to do to *their* vehicles, too - it doesn't - and I'm sure the last thing you would want is anyone else following that information and damaging their engine by doing the same things, right?

I'm sure you're a nice guy who is just having money troubles right now - so I suggest removing that chip altogether and never using it again until you can afford to use it *right* - which means using nothing but the very best 93 octane fuels, and NEVER allowing it to detonate - if it pings, REMOVE IT and have a *qualified* tuner re-tune that engine properly. I really don't want to see you hurt that motor!

I hope this information helps you a bit, and best of luck with whatever you decide - I wish you well,

i had more problems runnin 93 octane then i did runnin 87... the plugs got massively gunked up when runnin 93 octane. and when using 87 they werent. i can check the valves if u like. but as of now without the chip in it runs better then it was when i was runnin 93+ octane and now with the chip out i dont hear my lifter ticking on cold starts. with the chip in runnin 93 octane the truck seemed worse off but i just left it in and kept the RPM low so no major problems would occur. but yes im aware it was a **** poor tune but they place i had it done at is reputable. but he just kept giving me the run around tellin me itd cost me 250 bucks for a tune to have what i want on it. so i just dealt with it. but come to find out he was just b/sin trying to get money outa me. hmm do u know if this could get his license revoked to be a superchips tuner and distributor?
