The only problem I see is you might want a 93 performance because once you try it you won’t go back to 87. If you figure a 20¢ a gallon difference between 87 and 93 it’s only another $5 bucks a fill up, well worth the extra power IMO, but whatever tunes you chose, I’m sure you’ll be pleased with the results.

As far as getting extra tunes (more than three) to store on your computer until needed, it’s definitely doable; ask Mike and he’ll fix ya up

I have 87 tow 92tow and 92 perf. I still only get 8mpg towing my 7000 pound 30 foot travel trailer. Same as I got before the XCal2 and AF1. It does have more giddy-up-go, but no change in mpg. I also now have to slow down to 58-60 mph to keep it in OD without hunting. With the stock tune I can go 65-68 mph and keep it in OD.

Interesting...with my stock truck 5.4, and 20" wheels, with 3.55 rear end, I cannot go in OD unless I am going down hill. now sure how you are getting to 68 and 70 with 7#'s. Impressive actually. THen again I am a novice when towing.

Agree on all fronts...going to get these "first tunes" then call up ol Mike and buy some extra ones to play with to keep on the desktop...load when I want to play...

There is a dude at my office with a Dodge RT10 truck, I know I cannot hang with him but I want to shock him a little.

Hi JP,

Yes, you can always have us do extra tunes that you can keep on your PC's hard drive and overwrite what's in your tuner at any time - for people who do that (and ONLY for them), we will send you AL of your tunes in the proper format so that you can always do that time and again - we have a lot of people doing that, some of whom have 6 or more different tunes ready on their PC!!

So no problem there, & thanks for your order!

Hey GoneCamping....just a follow up to your message above. What gears do you have in your truck? I have the 3.55 and I am thinking about going back to the factory wheels...per Fords website, I loose almost 700lbs of tow capaicty with the 3.55' and 20"s. If I go back to the factory wheels my rating goes up to 8900#'s. I am safely now within the 80% rule with my TT weight but I think that would be nicer on the truck to have the extra power on the factory wheels. That and the fact I don't want Mike to shoot me after working his tail off to get my tunes to me in the first place.

Cool. I'm headed out Friday morning. Boondockin' for 4 days.

I have the same TT you do. Mine's an 04. It has the older stickers on it that look like upside down Nike swooshes.

Yours looks pretty new.

RR,
I ordered the Xcal2 with the exact same setup you speak of. So far I have only used the 87 perf. and 87 towing and have been very please with both (I REALLY LIKE 87 perf). The 87 tow is hands down better than stock. I pull a 30' travel trailer (#6500)and have been please with the performance to date. When I do some long distance pulling next year - I will give 93 tow a try, but for the typical weekend stuff - 87 does fine, even with VA hills and mountains. Just need to do your own thing and not get frustrated by the diesel f-250s going by you at +55 mph.

Don't worry - tuner regret happens. I spent the first 4 weeks after ordering thinking I didn't pick the right tunes - after several months, I am over that now.

As a side note, just make sure you get the data logging in soon after reciept. For me, pocket book has been tight, so the recommended maintenance has been slow a slow process (especially the upstream O2s) and I want to make sure that all top notch before I send in the datalog info. Hopefully I can get that done in the next week or two.

Nomad, thanks for your post, that was great info. I actually got my tunes in time to use them this weekend. I used the 93 tow and it was a significant upgrade from stock. My mileage wasn't great but then again, I had to go up some small hills, one is 6% for 2 miles, but I stayed at 55 up it. The other times I managed to run 65-70, MPG was at 9.

I am anxious to use the 87 performance and see what the 87 tow is like. I did email TP to see what the cost would be to get a few more tunes...I ran into a slight issue on finding 93 gas...had to go to 3 different places and it was hard with our TT in tow.

My 30K service is due and I will send in the data log info soon after that. While dumping the black water this weekend a guy pulled up and asked me about my 1/2 ton pulling my trailer...I told him it was fine. He had a 12K# on a F350 said he struggled with it so I feel better. Mine is 5050 dry and I guess we are around 6200-6500 loaded with gear and food, passengers and fuel. I am satisfied with the performance and will hold off on buying a 250 for awhile unless ford comes out with more crazy financing in the next few months. I may wait until the new 08's with the shorter beds come out. They are to debut them at the Texas State Fair this month so I may go down and check it out. Anyway, sorry for the lost post, have a good one.

JP

Took a trip from Douglas, WY to Deadwood, SD this weekend dragging a 10,000 pound 33 ft fifth wheel and got 6.5 once and 7.3 twice. The low was from Newcastle, WY to Deadwood and back, nothing but long 6-7% grades. I was actually quite pleased with how my truck handled the hills with this load, however can't wait to see what Troyer can do with my truck. BTW 5.4 F-250 with 3.73 gears.
