89 Tow Tune and Overdrive

That's gonna be a lot..luckily I'm only towing it a short bit. Ok, it's not going to be THAT big, but I'm still figuring in the 7 - 8,000lbs range. We're hoping for 1 1/2 - 2 ft in diameter, and about 10 - 12 ft long. Don't worry, I'll have a new Tekonosha Prodigy V2.6 brake controller going...

yup - 2 x 12 works out to be approx 6401 pounds.
Just take it easy, or let RP or trytokeepup do it for you
I don't wanna have to rewax/redetail my trailer hitch - the inside
Cheers

Hi RockPick!
For towing, it's like most have already said - if the tranny is cycling 4-3 3-4, then yes, turn Overdrive of and just let it tow in 3rd gear - and if you are going up a significant grade, it may well even need to downshift into 2nd gear and take it a very heavy throttle at 4600+ rpm - and that's OK if that happens, don't' worry about that, these trucks are made to take that.
It's really a matter of the terrain - if it's pretty flat, then usually it will stay in Overdrive a lot of the time - but if it wants to downshift on any kind of regular basis, then just punch the O/D disable button until you get back to level terrain.
It's OK to tow in Overdrive in these newer trucks as long as it is not doing frequent 4-3 3-4 downshifts & upshifts - when it does that, it's time to disable the O/D.
Hope that helps!
