Disconnecting the Edge when not programming ?

I'm new to the programming age, sooo,,, I just recieved my new Edge last night, and was wondering, I actually dont want to install it yet because I want to paint the housing and all to match my dash or even install it in my ash tray as I've read on here... sooo,, my question is,, can I set up the programmer, plug it in and set the programs on my ECU, then disconnect it until I'm ready to install and keep the benefit of the new programs ?

I read the manual before I got my edge. That way I wouldn't be flooding the site with questions like this.

Read the manual thoroughly. It will greatly help.
