Getting my truck serviced at Ford tomorrow.

Sorry if this has been covered but I didn't have any luck finding this topic.

Tomorrow I'm taking my truck in to the dealershipfor it's 90K service. This is the first service since getting the XCAL2. My fear is the dealership flashing my PCM. I've noted to them NOT to do this but I remember them recomending it in the past which I declined as I new I would be getting the XCAL2 in the near future.

I'm sure I'm over reacting and the dealership will hopefully not flash my PCM upon my request but what's the worst that will happen if they do? Will this ruin all of my custom tunes?

Thanks.

Return your truck to the stock tune and let them do their work and retune when you get home. Simple way to avoid any issues.

If they flash over your tune you will lose it and have a vin locked tuner that is now unusable.

I would put a piece of tape over the plug so they won't touch it.

Hi.

Actually, that won't work for an X2, as it's likely the strategy (hex code) will be different if it's reflashed, hence the tunes may not work correctly if re-applied. Custom tunes are specific to the strategy code, not just the PCM (box) code.

Best bet is to insist on them not doing a reflash. And of course, always return to stock anytime you take it in.

Cheers

True, if the strategy changes he will not be able to retune but at least he won't be VIN locked.

I thought of doing that however in addition to my service I also have a CEL on so I know they'll be hooking it up to their computer. I pulled codes DTC-P1131 and DTC-P1151. Seems to be an issue with my O2 sensors.

That is the main reason I'm so nervous they'll flash my PCM as well.

Hi Norm.

Yup - wasn't contesting that part - I agreed with the return-to-stock advice in my reply.

Thanks.

I've got the 3.25" AF1 and the XCal2 tunes and I cannot return to stock unless I remove the AF1 and put the stock air intake back in. I just tell them not to touch the computer. So far no problems

I think there is a good chance they will, but if you have not returned to stock, I think you will be very messed up. If the calibration changes, if you bought it from Troyer, I bet he can send you the update to fix it.
I took mine in for an emissions check and inpection sticker, they messed with the computer and changed the calibration. I was very thankful I had gone in with stock program. I have the Edge, it recognized the new calibration, but told me it had been changed.

It might be worth a call to your progammer to see what they say about it.

I also have the AF1 intake. Will the truck not run correctly if I return it to stock tune to take to the dealership?

Your 2002 will run fine with the intake and stock tune. The 04 and newer had some issues with CAI and lean conditions I believe.

Hi.

Yup, ChrisT, you'll be fine.

It's the 3.25" & 3.5" AF1's that require custom tuning to run safely. The 3-inchers can ( usually) be run safely with the stock tuning - the caveats being those trucks that had a factory lean condition to contend with from the start, as Norm indicated.

You can do a Search for more info on this.

Would you mind posting what they tell you about those two codes. I have a buddy who's 02 4.2 threw the same codes and after doing some research it's either the o2 sensors or some sort of intake vacuum leak, IIRC. Thanks.
