Hi.

Search, buddy - you're no noob!

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ight=open+loop

On your '01` - depends on your PCM/strategy code.

Post your 4-character PCM code - Mike Troyer can tell from that.

Cheers
Bubba

Another good reference for stuff like this is the forums over at sctflash.com. Post your question there, and I'm sure that someone will answer it.

Hi Chris,

No, that truck *cannot* go into open loop from the factory - that needs to be fixed via proper custom tuning.

Open loop operation is where the vehicle's PCM is no longer taking data from the O2 sensors, but instead is running off of the lookup tables, and more importantly, only in open loop can it go richer than stoich A/F (14.64:1) and thus be able to tolerate more spark advance, and thus make more power. So not being able to go open loop puts a real damper on power under any load, or at anything more than light throttle.

That particular code also takes a good deal of work to really get nice results from in other areas of the strategy, but overall, certainly can be done.

We have tuned many of those trucks with that same code, and know the strategy well, so if you want to have it tuned, just give us a call & we can make it run much better than it does now.

Well, that is up to you, but keep in mind that the Livewire is going to be signifcantly more expensive - now if that is worth it for you, then yes, you can certainly wait for the Livewire, as it can be loaded with our custom tuning as well.

Hi Chester,

Sure, we can do that - Ford does that in a number of the gas engine trucks for one reason - so that they get better fuel mileage at full-throttle.

Now keep in mind that doing this hurts power - but if someone wanted to tow a heavy load a long ways and didn't care about power, we can get them a bit better fuel mileage at heavy throttle by not allowing it to go open loop. Personally I do not recommend it, due to what happens to the EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures), but Ford does it in the 1997-2003 model F-150's, so if someone wanted that, yes, we would do it for them.
