troyer stage1 package vs gears??

Both of these mods are about the same price and was wondering which would give me a better performance value?? This is prob. a stupid question but some guys are saying gears and tuner are the best performance mods so i need advice. I have an EDGE already but wont mind getting the troyer tune if this package is the better. My goal is to reach 300 rwhp w/o having to get a forced induction system. this kit comes with exhaust, custom tune, and CAI, and Prob is i live in AL. i would be getting the 4.10's i have 3.73 now.

heres the link to the package http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...o=Stage104354C

P.S-sorry if this is in wrong section but the package comes w/ custom tune and since people in this section deal w/ mike more

Concur

Except, recycle the FartMasters - you don't want to add more garbage to the landfill problem.

And you did know that gears do not add any horsepower - not one.

Gears will not add HP.

And you won't hit 300 RWHP with just bolt-ons.

If you did want to bolt-on every possible thing.. Just save a few pennies more and supercharger it..

But yes.. the stage 1 kit will make you happier.. I promise.

I noticed that the stage 2 will get your pretty close to 300 depending on your truck setup from the factory and dyno's etc. I did some looking at superchargers but ill be looking around 5k+ with install and everything the stage 2 is a 1/4 of that. the stage 2 which is good for about 10-15 more hp than stage 1. Just how much does a supercharger kit cost including install?? Im looking for a reliability on top of hp also. I wish troyer did a supercharger stage for the 04+ trucks

Hi Ryan;

They do. They will combo just about anything, if you ask them.

Far from everything they offer is on their web site.

Cheers

No probs. You may want to phone instead - for faster response - their email load can be very high & it may be several days ....

Why don't you tell us and that'll skip a phone call.

take your truck as an example. You have everything minus:
Ignition upgrade (Hi-Perf COP's or Plasma ignition booster)= 5rwhp
BBK throttle body= 8RWHP on a good day
Electric water pump.= 10 RWHP

You *MIGHT* hit 300 with ALL that stuff... but why don't you just spend just a tad more and supercharge it. I say might with a short wheel base truck 2wd.. less drivetrain loss. Lot's of "if's"

Nitrous... I was not counting that as a bolt on. Plus.. I haven't seen anyone spraying a new 5.4 yet.

Given all that has been said I would still go with the gears. They are one of the most reliable modifications you can make with a minimum of maintenance.

HP is worth nothing if you have a couple of tons of weight to get moving and can't get it to the ground fast enough.

I say go w/4.56 instead of the 4.10 R/P. If you're looking for "seat of the pants" performance, and that's why people ususally want to add HP, then I would go with the gears *now* and build up your HP from there.

If most HP with bolt on's is the goal here, then the Troyer tuner/intake combo ( AF1 w/ 3.5" tube ) is the way to go. Mike's tuning, especially with throttle response, is right on - and tell 'em you are not interested in max fuel mileage, you want the throttle response in od too. For me, it is just a better overall driving experience and I have owned and driven these trucks with an Edge customized on level 3 and Mike's tune. But, if $$ is a factor, and since you have a tuner and exhaust, the right gears would probably give you a heck of a launch off line for that almost 6000lb beast. Tough decision dude.

If you are even THINKING about lifting and getting bigger tires, GO WITH GEARS. Just don't stop at 4:10.

If you NEVER plan on bigger tires, go with the Troyer stage 2

My $0.02
