Best Tuner...Opinions Needed

So after reading through many post on here about the different tuners for the F150, I can't seem decide which one is for me and which will yield better results. I know most answers will be based on a biased factor, but I am hoping what I plan to use the truck for will help to choose which tuner will best suit my needs. First off, I have an '07 F150 Supercrew XLT (4.6L). This is my daily driver which will see some occasional long trip use (anywhere from 200-600 miles). Right now, I am in the process of getting an intake for it, and would more than likely end up installing an aftermarket exhaust system in the near future. As far as using it for heaving hauling, it may and may not. However, since I plan on moving into a house soon, I am sure I will be using it for transfering items to and from. I want something that will give the truck some more power and torque, without sacrificing ghas mileage. I have only dealt with two tuners before when I had my SVT Focus, and since the market for tuners on those cars were relatively small, I only had to choose from the SCT Xcalibrator and Diablo Sport Predator (both of which I have used). Lets also consider price. I want something that will give me the most bang for the buck. Please help!

You'll get two responses: Troyer Performance Xcal 2 or the Edge.

I'm running the TP Xcal 2.

Ok, TP Xcal2. Forgot to also mention that the truck is a 2WD. Just thought I'd throw that in the mix.

Running the TP XCAL2. Great setup, and excellent customer service which in my opinion is priceless. You should call them and see what you can expect from the 4.6 on a SC. They can steer you to the best mods. to wake up your truck ( exhaust, fans, etc.). It's gotta be deadly slow stock. Good luck.

It’s definitely TP for me. I’ve been running Mikes’ custom tunes on my truck since the Xcal hit the market back in 04 and then upgraded to the Xcal2 when it became available, and all I got to say about it is it’s been totally trouble free, set it and forget it; it’s dabomb

Hi TXF150Steve,

It's a matter of who is doing th actual tuning, NOT what hardware you use.

For these Ford F-series, basically everyone in the know comes to us for our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as we have specialized in this platform for over 15 years now - far longer than anyone else.

So we have custom tuned literally thousands upon thousands of them, far more than anyone else, and in any type of configuration imaginable, with every engine, any option, from mild to wild.

Most people are looking to have a reliable daily driver that gives them the best safe & sustainable performance - and not just peak HP, but part-throttle torque, overall driveability, etc are really key in these vehicles.

The problem with F-series tuning, especially the F-150, is that they have literally *hundreds* of different PCM revisions each and every model year - no other vehicle has this - and this makes F-150 tuning literally the hardest to do thoroughly, properly and consistently in each and every vehicle - this is why we get the best results, as we are actually the only people who specialize in this platform, and as such, we have more experience with them than any of the chipmakers or any other tuner - it's what we do. Now if you wanted your Honda tuned, we would not be the world's best place to go - but in these F-150's, it's a no-brainer, and we are very well known for our results.

It's easy to see our customers all over these boards talking about their results with our tuning - and there are many posts where people have used other products and then come to us for our custom tun,g and raved about the difference - it all gets down to experience & knowledge on this specific platform, and the fact that it is like no other vehicle in the hundreds of different PCM revisions each and every model year - so it takes a true specialist to really do a thorough in-depth optimization of the PCM's powertrain operating parameters.

Now with all that said, it's not accurate to think that tuning alone is going to turn a 2.5-3-ton truck into a rocketship, of course - but our Troyer Performance custom tuning is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to these vehicles, as nothing else for the same or less cost will do as much for the performance, driveability, and overall enjoyability of driving these vehicles in everything form acceleration times to towing, to everyday driving.

this is of course just some brief info, & please feel free to give us a call to see what we can do for your vehicle, how you operate it, and what you are looking to get out of it - I think you'll find that our tuning will do the best job, by far, for that vehicle.

We also modify these vehicles in every other area of performance, from engines, to cylinder heads, transmissions, and can take them to any level of performance desired by the vehicle owner - so we have 300 Hp daily drivers, 100+ Hp monsters, and everything in between - though most F-105 owners are the typical daily driver & occasional tow vehicle that needs reliability, but needs better performance all around, and we can easily take care of that for you.

I hope this helps a bit, & we look forward to hearing from you - and best of luck whatever you decide!
