First, the vehicle owner was a very nice gentleman, and the poor guy went thru hell - had a flat tire on the way here that put him behind, and then when he gets here, we install his AF1 & load up his tuning...........
and his truck is about 100-120 RWHP down on power!!!! OUCH!
Meaning, something is mechanically wrong with his truck.
In datalogging, we found that his CMCV was not opening, which, once in a rare while the datalogging software won't pick up on the CMCV activity properly, but it was definitely feel-able. When you first nailed it it felt OK, but then immediately stopped making additional power.
His peak power was only 147 RWHP. Ech - it was an easy 60 RWHP down from what it should put out STOCK.
Additionally, the engine was making a light metallic knocking noise, but only when idling in gear - put it in Park or Neutral and the knock immediately stopped, which tends to point to a cam phaser problem. Oil volume was fine, oil pressure when idling in gear was fine, otherwise we would never have run it on the dyno, and we only made a coupla-few light pulls at that.
Now the vehicle is under warranty, so we cannot do the repairs on the vehicle - this is up to a dealership to take care of. We have documented as best we can what his problems seem to be, how far down it is on power, etc.
With all the trucks we have done, this was a first, to have a truck with a knock like that (and no, it wasn't a "rod knock" or anything like that, otherwise we would never have run it on the dyno) AND to be 100+ RWHP down on power.
Now a while back, the customer had a animal get in under the intake manifold and chew thru a wiring harness, disabling the cylinder head temperature sensor - so it's possible that, since the CMCV control goes to the same harness, that the animal got further down in there and chewed it up and the dealership didn't find that damage, or perhaps didn't properly do the repair, I don't know - his CHT sensor was functioning when we got it.
So we suspect 1 or possible 2 issues - one is CMCV not opening, and the power plots certainly indicate an airflow-related type of power production issue, and then the knock, which we're surmising may be a cam phaser - that is what both of our ASE-certified Ford techs diagnosed it as. Now that alone could potentially cause a power problem, so it is possible it's all in the cam phaser, perhaps.
But the bottom line is, this nice guy had a heck of a time - he had some time ago tried to tow his 7000 lb trailer, and the truck would barely do 50 mph, so it has been down on power for some time. He took it into the dealership, and they told him that his "knocking" noise was "normal" - well, we noticed it right away, you can't miss it, and it is NOT normal in any way, shape or form.
So now it's time for him to get it into a competent dealership to diagnose & repair under warranty.
After we were thru and he left, he even called us from the road saying it just wasn't running well, and since he was only about 20 miles out we had him come all the way back, and we did 3 more brand new tunes from scratch all over gain, just to make sure it couldn't be anything on our end (file corruption, etc., which happens about every 12th of never), and of course, there was no difference, it still made no power, the original tunes were perfectly fine as usual.
So it's off to the dealership for diagnosis & repair - it will be interesting to see how this one turns out, we just hate that it wasn't a simple tuning or connection issue, something that we could have taken care of for him here cheaply/quickly - but he'll have to get it taken care of by a Ford dealership, and he's still under warranty.

Too bad my GT is pre OBD-II (EEC-IV) and speed-density to boot ... crap.

?
i'm getting an appreciation on tuning- i'll be adjusting the fuel trim tables on my toy via a dynojet powercommander on my buddys dynojet bike dyno- while all i can do is adjust fuel- it's neat to tinker with this area and see the results first hand--on recently replacement of my exhaust, air filters and 2tuning maps- i'm up to 167 rwhp- i got some fine tweaking to do- i'll then be taking it into chiop ganasssi's wind tunnel to be fine tuning the ramair-it pays to know people-phil

update
[IMG][/IMG]
[/IMG]My truck finally done. I'm picking up today as soon as my girl friend gets home from work. Its been at the the dealer for 2 weeks. it was the imrc valve not opening. they told me its running great. We'll see. I forgot to ask the dealership if they check the camphaser. it had slight valve tap in gear at idle. I told them about when I brought my truck in to get serviced. Hopefully they didn't forget.. Now i can install my Af1 3.5 and Xcal2. Which I properly don't need now. since there was something wrong with the truck all along. Another dealership told me there was nothing wrong. I use the truck for towing a RV camper. But it could use the extra power...lol.

Before making that final decision, try it stock for a week - you should anyway to make sure it's really fixed - then install the intake & tuning, and see what ya think.
Betcha you won't be going back to stock.
on me if you do.

notice a difference
I noticed a difference on my way home. Dealership about 45 minutes from home. Before it would down shift everytime I climbed a hill. I got to tow my camper to get it inspected soon. I'll notice the difference then. I leave at stock for now.
I don't know what happen as if why the screen got so wide. I thought the pictures would be top and bottom, not side by side. If anybody knows what I did wrong let me know.
ok I fixed my pic but MGD FAN needs to fix his post. i don't think I can.

runs great
i just drove it home from Tom Clark so far. It has more response and get up go. Now when I hit the gas it goes and not hesitates. I haven't really drove it around yet. It runs better now than it ever did even when I had the xcal2,AF1and siso kit on. I can't wait to put the kit back on.
