It's no worse than towing a heavy trailer up a hill.

Sounds as if you modified your "normal" shift points. Don't change those. just set the WOT shift points to about 5250 rpms. Set the shift pressure where you want it between + 6 and +12. I ahve mine at +12. Oh, and on the 3-4 shift, keep it at about 4800 rpms.

WOT shift 1-2=5300, 2-3=5300, 3-4=4800
Firmness 1-2=+8, 2-3=+8, 3-4=+5
Rev Lim 5450
Speed 110
Gears 3.55
Tires 2445 (measured, way off what the manual said for 265/70R17)
Timing +1.5 (I'm at 6000 ft running 87 oct, so you may not want to use this)
WOT 1.6

This appears to be a pretty driveable tune, although I may bump down the WOT shift for the 1-3 points, it seems to scream a little too much .
So after a little more reading and a little more driving I've settled on this one for level 2
WOT shift 1-2=5250, 2-3=5250, 3-4=4850
Firmness 1-3=+4, 3-4=+3
Rev Lim 5400
timing +1.5 (again at 6,000 ft running 87. adjust yours accordingly)
WOT 1.5 (the air is thin here)
Even though this thread kind of died I'm posting it as a reference for others in the 97-03 group to have a reference

what part of MN? I'm origionally from central ND and have alot of family in the Dawson and Forest lake areas. I would say you'd be alright without customizing 87 on level 2 and 91 on 3, the way I got my timing figured out was to just bump it .5 and then drive it for a few days and see how it was, the engine kept feeling better and better until I hit +2.5 then it didn't feel right and felt like it was loosing power from the previous tune, so I went down to +1.5 just to be safe and not get any detonation (which I never heard). If you hear detonation back it off, cuz that will cause you problems, as far as WOT fuel alot of people in various locations run 1.6, again mine just felt better at 1.5, personally I would adjust the two of them seperately to make sure you get it right for both. good luck

No go ahead and try different things, I'm just saying your timing might not have to go up much, your WOT fuel settings might need to be changed alot to make it feel the best or it might not. Experiment and have fun with it, it's a great feeling when you get your settings to where your truck runs incredibly better than stock

You won't get the full advantage without at least some adjustments of pressure, fuel, and timing.

I just recently got my Edge so I have been fairly conservative on the custom tuning. So far these are the settings I have on my 2003 F150 5.4L FX4:

Level 2 Tow running 89 octane
Timing +1
WOT Shift 1-2=5200 2-3=5200 3-4=4800
Shift Firmness 1-2=+4 2-3=+4 3-4=+2
Rev Limit 5400
WOT Fuel 1.5
Top Speed 110
Gear 3.55
Tire Size 2526mm (measured for 285/70/17s)

That is pretty much what I would do on the 2003. Almost identical to what I run on my 2005 with theexception that my shift pressure is at +12
I like a firm, hard shift.
