? for edge guys
this question is probably for the fuel miser guys, ive been running lvl 2 for some time 89 oct. the last month i went to lvl 3 and 91 oct.mostly town driving, havent had it on the highway yet on lvl3.was wondering which lvl you guys get the most mpg,s and octane rating.around town i dont notice any diff 15-16 mpg. its an 06 scab 5.4 4x4 w/355 gears,14,700 miles now.thanks

I'm not an expert on the edge but I guess I know how to work it quite well. Around town, I use Level III and run 91 octane. I'm running 3.55 gears with 33" tires and have a 4x4 with the 4.6 motor and SCAB configuration. I usually get around 15 MPGs. I truly believe it is all a matter of your personal driving style as to what your MPGs will be. Obviously if you have a lead foot and always goose it from stoplights, etc. you're MPGs will be crap. Just my .02

You are going to get the best mileage with the tune that exhibits the smallest TPS that allows you to maintain your desired speed, all else being equal .
This is usually the highest octane, & leanest tune. Which in your case is L3.
It has to do with BSFC - which decreases as advance (and other perf tune changes) increases, in very broad terms. Essentially, efficiency improves.
You can prove this by logging TPS against fuel rates over a repeatable course at steady state, using different tunes/octanes. If you didn't already know, your Edge has that capability; you can examine/compare results on your pc.
The normal caveats w.r.t test condition variables apply, but you get the idea.
And as mentioned, driving with a neanderthal right foot throws all of that out the window LOL!

GMJ91 is definitely right, for low end torque and towing you definitely want lvl2 and do not tow on lvl3...if you're running around town and easy on the pedal my experience 3 weeks into this is that lvl2 is slighty better mpg, but if you have more open road driving then i would agree lvl3 is the best option and will give you more high end HP/torque. Whatever you do just make sure if you run lvl3 you use 91 or higher octane....the thing i like is here right now 92-93 octane is $.23-$.25 higher which on a tank is $5 and if you're running lvl2 you only need 87 octane and the difference from 87 to 92-93 on mpg from my experience is about .5mpg which isn't enough to justify switching to 92-93 octane.....so my opinion would be run lvl2 87 octane and save some $ on fillups.

I wanna throw .02 more into this....Badbilly i will say this, my screw is an 06 5.4 with 373 gears...i'm seeing on lvl2 driving around town and to work/back home (23 miles a day back roads and through small towns) around 14.5-15 mpg actual and i'm pretty easy on the pedal....but your edge display might show 15-15.2 that's what mine displays but in reality i've filled up twice and both times were 14.4 and 14.7 at the same pump, and every drop possible right up to the top so i feel confident in my calculations. You're going to do slightly better with 355 gears no doubt so maybe you can squeeze out 15.5???? A lot depends on driving habits, smooth accelerations/braking, and how much open road vs. short stop and go, etc....good luck

After lots of testing, I have found the best mileage to be with Level II and 87 octane. I get just a little bit of a ping at 4800rpm in 2nd gear under full throttle, but since I don't drive that way 99.99% of the time the 87 octane works fine. I drive a lot of miles and have logged the mileage for almost every tank of fuel since I have owned the truck. Level I saw zero difference in mileage over stock. Level II gets me just a hair over 1.5mpg better than stock. Level III gets about the same mileage as stock, maybe a little better but it is less than .5mpg difference. Even with highway driving only, Level II/87 gets me better mileage than Level III/91.
For the absolute best economy, Level II and 87 octane.

Since I don't have one, I can only go by what was indicated in the manual/Edge literature.
You can select up to 5 PIDs to log. The supplied software allows you to display/graph the data on your pc.
Hopefully a member with a unit will chime in, or you can try giving Edge a call, or check their site for assistance.
It's an advertised feature - you would hope they'd support it.
Good luck.

I've tried the datalogging and for some reason it just dont work. I also have one of the cool trucks that you cant custom tune with the Edge, the tranny just gets all crazy. The way I look at it: Why try to custom tune the Edge??? How much are you really gonna squeeze out of that thing? NOT 35HP! If you think you gain 35HP from a canned tune I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Bottom line is Edge is better than stock and if you are going to customize a tune do it the right way and pay someone who knows WTF they are doing(hint.. TP). Dont come on here askin "is the Edge gonna void my warranty?" you know damn well it will; otherwise Ford would make it that way stock. And NO you are not going to get 20+MPG's with any tuner. I dont care who you are or what you say, NO F'N WAY. IMO, the Edge is badass, all the PID'S alone are well worth the $320 I paid.
