I ordered my xcal3 and af1 intake yesterday from troyer and was wondering what type of custom tunes do other people run or recommend for 03 5.4. I kinda don,t know what to go with.

A lot of folks here go with:

87 Performance
87 Tow
93 Performance (or whatever the highest Octane you have in your area)

Those are the tunes I have. You will just love your Troyer tunes when you get them! Well worth the wait!

Ok thanks but what kinda of performance can i expect from the stock canned tunes while i wait for my custom tunes. And what kind of shift firmness do most people go with i do not want to tear my tranny out if yoy know waht i mean. Also do people see any mpg increase if you keep your foot out of it. Just wandering.

I can't say anything about the "canned" tunes When I ordered my X-Cal III, I had Troyer send me mine with my tunes already loaded.

87 on all 3 here , on performance I turn down the shift firmness on 1/2 & 2/3 it really hits hard , turned down 5 to 10 points out of 25
If you drive normal you really dont notice until you put your foot in it.
The most noticable difference is the ease on the freeway of going up large hills at slower rpm or speed.

I ordered 87 perf. 87 tow and 93 perf. on the Xcal 2, which didn't come with any canned tunes. The tunes were loaded on there by Troyer when I got it.

I've never had any problem with the shifts on the custom tunes, they're 100% improvement over the stock shifts. I guess they could be called "firm" tho it's not like there's ever been a "kick" that you can feel in your butt, as in "hard shifts". They're just super QUICK. No lag between when it should shift when just cruising up to speed OR when punching it.

That was the main thing I worried over when ordering the tunes, that it was gonna slam the transmission. No worries, you're gonna love how it shifts!

Can't speak to how canned tunes may function. Install 'em and see how they feel. Just give Troyer a call if anything seems harsh.

I am currently running the canned tunes on the Livewire, waiting for my custom tunes.

They are a big improvement over the stock settings.

Everything from the power to the shifting is better, It evens idles smoother now.
