Edge? Putting on new exhaust

I'm having 3" exhaust and a less restrictive muffler put on my truck. Should I set the edge back to stock, then reprogram it so it can relearn the new setup, or just leave it as is?

leave it as is, just pull the negative from your battery and reconnect it. that will reset the adaptive learning, and it will "re-learn" your new exhaust flow.

Should I discon the edge before I discon the battery? I've seen some horror posts here about discon'n the battery and then people had probs with their edge/truck.

with the edge, you never know what is going to happen. I guess you should disconnect it/take it out just to make sure. The tune will remain on your truck though, which is fine.

That'll be what I do then, just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the help.

IMO that's not neccessary. No battery disconnecting, no Edge reprogramming. It just sets the KAM memory. An exhaust isn't going to need it. Now if you had installed an intake than I'd say do it if you'd like. Regardless it's not going to hurt anything. The only thing is that it WILL make the truck feel faster. So I don't like to do that because I want to know the true gain in performance.

I have a 4.6 truck on 37's, I don't use the fast word very often, unless its something like "wow that car just passed me really fast"

The Edge uses a small trickle of "keep-alive" power off the battery to remain "initialized". If the battery is disconnected, it's like disconnecting the Edge from the OBDII port. If you do that, you need to have the ignition ON (and the battery connected, obviously), before you reconnect the Edge to that port.

So, I'd disconnect the Edge before you reconnect the battery. Then, just follow the user manual when you reconnect the Edge.

You shouldnt have to do anything install it and go on! NO setting the edge back to stock and sure "wouldnt" disconnect the battery.

Yes - I agree with you here. Why disconnect the battery in the first place?

The big question is, does the PCM recognize the changes he's doing? If it does, fine, it will adapt. My uneducated guess though, is that the PCM may not be aware of these changes and the only way the vehicle could adapt is through custom tunes. The PCM would have to have "sensors" in the exhaust circuit to be able to adapt. Does it have these?

Now I could be totally out to lunch on this thought - it won't be the first time! :o Any experts ready to stake their reputaion on this?

An exhuast is not that big of deal. Just put it on and go. However, if you chose to disconnect the battery, ole man Jack is correct. There is no need to set the Edge to stock other than to be absolutely safe. You can just unplug it and not plug it back up until the battery is reconnected and the key is on. But, as i said, to take no chance whatsoever, set it to stock first. If it were mine, I would change the exhaust and leave the Edge as is. It will all adjust with a few drive cycles.

how about if you install headers would that require a new custom tune?

What kind of headers? Are you getting rid of the cats? I don't think anything in the tune will need to be different unless you're going to a O/R set-up, cat delete, than you'll need the 02 sensors turned off in the tune.

I'll be putting on an intake in a few weeks so maybe I will just leave the fiddling with the edge until then.
