my new truck needs some attitude

hey all im new to this forum but not f 150's ive had 6 150's and 1 250 but this new one is by far the sweetest truck ive ever owned I got a 08 supercrew lariat 4x4 about 3 months ago the only things ive done so far is put a cover on the box and a line of fire light under the tailgate but now i want a little more under the hood i know im going to get a cold air kit but there are so many different ones my brother has a volent on his(to quiet) my buddy has a AEM(maybe a bit to loud) anyone know of the best in between? Also Im very used to having programmers in superdutys with the coal burner but was wondering if they even make a diff in gas engines if so how much, any comments (short of things like nos and superchargers)that might help me pick up some horsies would be helpful thanks in advance

S&B or 3-inch AirForceOne intake ~$300 and custom tuned XCal ~$400. You will not get as much as a tuned diesel but it will be noticeable if done correctly. Much better throttle response and transmisson behavior. Improved power by ~10-15%.

VMPTuning.com custom tuned Xcal2 or Xcal3. It's $395 for the programmer and three custom tunes. As far as intake goes, get a S&B or AF1 3.0". A Magnaflow or MRBP bolt on exhaust system would also be a good idea unless you want to go to a custom set-up.

Get the AF1 CAI. I just read on another thread that some people experience drone with the S&B. You can get the tuner and tunes from VMP tuning or Troyer Performance. Those are the two popular choices with the X-Cal. I have Troyer tunes in my 07 F150 with 3.5" AF1.

What part of Minnesota are you from? I grew up near Rochester in a small farm town but live in Oregon now.

Khindal, the drone that comes from the S&B is only when running canned tunes, it's odd. Once I switched from the Edge to my custom tuned Xcal2, no more problems.

Strange that the canned tunes do that. Custom tuning is the best way to go anyway IMO.

My hometown, West Concord, is about 750 people!

IMO, the best you can do is get custom tuning for your truck. The program is written specifically for your truck. The main businesses on this website for custom tuning are: Troyer Performance, VMP Tuning, and Power Hungry Performance. All three are sponsors of this website. Who you select is up to you. Check out their websites and call them directly to find out more info.

If you are getting a CAI I would get the Air Force 1 3.5" and custom tunes. Custom tunes will be required with that size CAI.

Here is a decent thread somebody wrote about the tuning.
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ghlight=sticky

Please read more and then ask more questions if you have some.

I hope this helps.

Kevin
