Thumper, I have a question (or anyone else familiar with the Xcal3 and VMP tunes)

I am looking at getting an Xcal3 w/ VMP custom tunes. Could you suggest what tunes I should get for my truck? Obviously I will get better performance benefits with the 93 octane tunes, but what about MPG tunes? Should I also get the 93 octane , maybe midrange, or should I get an 87 octane MPG tune?

I want this one for sure, but please let me know your thoughts.
Performance: 93 octane

Mods: Airraid CAI, 40 series 2.5" SI/DO Flowmasters

It's hard to answer this question without knowing what kind of driving you want to do.

I bought - 93 perf, 93 towing, 87 perf.

A slight gas mileage tune was adding to my towing but I haven't used it yet.

I wanted the max hp I could get.

I think Jeremy recommended the best set-up, IMO.

Thanks guys! I won't be towing much. We do have a 17ft boat we take around to local lakes to do some fishing, but other than that, nothing at all. Justin at VMP recommended I get the 93 performance, 87 MPG, and 87 Performance. I like the idea of having the towing tune though in case we go on a longer trip with the boat. Do you guys know how much my MPG's will improve with the MPG tune vs the performance tune (highway driving)?

Depending on your speed I don't think it would change a whole lot. I would just ask Justin before you order your tunes what he thinks.

Jeremy/Thumper,

Thanks again for your help. I'm planning on ordering tomorrow evening. If I can get an extra 1 to 2 MPG's by using a MPG tune, I may do that then. Thanks again!

I don't know if I would do the mpg tune. With my V6 I averaged 21 Hmpg with the 87 performance tune on the last trip I checked. I also didn't ever get a chance to use the mpg tune cause it never worked for me.

Personally I not count on a definite 1-2 mpg. Mileage is a tricky thing to pin down and a lot of other factors are counted in besides just a "mileage tune". Your driving being the biggest factor. i.e. If your always getting on it hard and cruising at 75+ mph on the highway you're not going to see a 2mpg.

I agree completely but if the driving style and conditions remain as a "constant" than it's very typical that you will gain 1-2 mpg. It's possible you gain nothing. Nothing is for certain with this type of stuff.

When I got my Edge way back there, I was very pleased that my mileage remained about where it had been stock, considering how much more aggressively I was driving it. I have since lost about 1 1/2 mpg with the bigger wheels and tires.
