Talking Got the Gryphon all installed.....

I just got the gryphon all installed. Let me tell you, with just the stock tunes I'm pretty impressed. I can't wait to get the custom tunes and see what its got. Thanks again to PHP for all the support!

You are so very welcome! We're glad you're pleased. Bill is trying to finish as many custom calibrations as possible before we close the office Friday night, so yours might be completed earlier than expected. In fact, he woke me up about 2:30AM doing something that was making his computer beep; he came to bed about 5:00, and here I am wide awake! Sure wish I knew how to tune...

I am anxiously awaiting my custom tunes as well.

I will have to say however that I am not impressed by the stock tunes AT ALL!!!!

I can not tell any difference at all besides the slightly firmer shift points.

Maybe I was expecting the noticeable difference I got when putting a chip in a 7.3 Powerstroke.

No idea, but I am hoping the custom tunes change my opinion.

I got an increase of 20 to 25 HP with the canned tunes. Level 3 was a major difference. Especially after I tweaked the custom settings.

Yes, when I ran level 3, only premium gas. You should never do otherwise.

I now have 87 Perf and 93 Perf tunes that replaced Level 1 and Level 3. I kept Level 2 for a towing tune.

I found the 87 canned added a lot of low end torque but faded rapidly over 50 or 60 mph. I really liked the canned Level 3 as it would go right up to 100 still pulling. That was what I needed on 2 lane highways and on freeways. I also found that I got about 11% better gas mileage with Level 3, which offset the extra cost of premium. My big complaint was the downshifting. I would catch it at spots where it would not accelerate quickly, needing a downshift, and it would get me in trouble. I ran it on Level 3 for almost 2 years.

The custom tunes solved the downshifting and added just a little more power. The 87 Perf is almost as strong as the 93 Perf and they get the same gas mileage. So, I now stay with the 87. Very pleased with it, but my stock tune is a dog, so it had to be a lot better.

Did you check to make sure the default gears are what your truck has?

You will not see the gain in a gasser that you saw in a 7.3 smoker. Depending on the chip you probably picked up 100hp 100+ftlbs on the smoker. You should see around 25hp gain with Evolution and a few more with custom tuning. Custom tuning will net more in the usable power department vs the peak power.

Speak with Bill he is very versed with ford diesel tuning as well as gas. He can give actual data.

Hi guys.......my first post over here on this site. Nice classy group you got here. I just uploaded my custom tunes this past weekend. I have only tried the 87 performance so far but I am quite pleased. It has definitely solved the driveability issues I was having with canned tunes!

I am also awaiting custom tunes from Bill and Corey. I like the canned tunes but I converted my edge to a Gryphon so they are similar.

Custom or canned is NOT going to give you the gains that diesels can put out.

I've always toyed with Diesel's as well, and I love the gains my dads duramax has with the edge/attitude combo and MBRP exhaust. I've had 3 different gas trucks and can honestly say that these tunes have been the most noticeable out of the 3 makes. I'm with ya blue jay, Level 3 is pretty good, and I've seen about a 1.5 mile gain in fuel economy. For the canned tune, it runs pretty well.
