Bill, if you are still reading this thread, what's the return time for a Gryphon upgrade?
My truck hesitated so badly when it was new, it was dangerous. I would pull out to pass and try to accelerate and it would just sit there. I took it to the dealer and they reflashed it under warranty. There was a TSB at the time. Since you are out of warranty, I just don't know what they will do. If you have to pay for it, it should be only $60-$80 or so.

I would never guarantee that the custom tunes will solve your problem, but I would be surprised if they didn't.

I have an 08 with 5.4 that has similar problems. Is there a TSB on 08s or should I just bite the bullet and buy a tuner.
Thanks,
Jim

I did a search and came up with this thread. Don't see anny help for you. You should just use it as an excuse to get a tuner.

I would check with the dealer, just see what they say. If it's bad, they should not have to have a TSB to do a reflash.

If the hesitation is the normal cruddy torque management, then yes it should.

Hardware upgrade turnaround is 2-3 days with cals ready to download in 3-4 weeks.

So, if I am understanding this correctly, I ship the unit out to you and I should get it back approx a week later as a Gryphon. Then, 3-4 weeks later, I will be able to download my custom tunes. Is that somewhat accurate?

I don't know when he will be back to answer, so I will. Yes, that is how it works.

Well, I'm not guilty for anything the other two said!

My truck is an 08........and with Bill's custom tunes I have no problems with hesitation, downshifting, throttle response or power for that matter. Here is my issue.......when I was stock, or revert back to my stock tune.......the truck acts really wonky when slowly driving at about 32mph. If I gently try to maintain that speed it eventually will try to shift into O/D.......but it's not really sure if it want's to. Then, it feels like it decides to upshift and it will "all of a sudden" feel like it's slips hard and then upshifts???
It feels terrible.....almost a little violent, like damage is occuring??
The Ford dealer tells me they will all do that - WTF
My programmer seemed to cure it for the most part......but now it still does it (a lot less often though) but it does it at about 45mph???
any opinions or insight????

Sounds like the converter strategy needs to be addressed. Of all the shifting parameters, that is what cause the most trouble.

I know what you mean about Ford blowing you off on the issues. The reason they say "They all do that" is because they know they can't do anything about it. With programmers it's a little different. If you don't like it, we CAN do something about it.

The other issue that Ford doesn't address is the valvetrain "rattle". People who don't know the 5.4L 3V engine think there is something wrong with it. I remember the first time I heard it and thought that the engine was falling apart. LOL Of course it's not, and I've not seen any failures related to the valvetrain so it must be okay.

Let me know what you'd like to do, Chris.

3-4 hesitation / sag / slip condition

Here is the fix for certain years and build dates . Ford TSB
TSB 08-14-03

2007-2008 F-150/MARK LT BUILT BETWEEN 12/4/2006 TO 5/20/2008 ONLY - ENGINE RPM FLARE DURING 3-4 UPSHIFT UNDER LIGHT THROTTLE ONLY - 5.4L 3V / 4R75E ONLY
SOME 2007-2008 F-150 AND MARK LT VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 12/4/2006 TO 5/20/2008, EQUIPPED WITH A 5.4L 3V AND 4R75E, MAY EXHIBIT AN ENGINE RPM FLARE DURING LIGHT ACCELERATION DURING THE 3-4 UPSHIFT. THIS WOULD ONLY OCCUR AT ROAD SPEED RANGES FROM 25-30 MPH (40-48 KM/H). NO DTCS OR OTHER DRIVABILITY OR TRANSMISSION ISSUES WOULD BE PRESENT. REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) TO THE LATEST CALIBRATION USINGIDS RELEASE 54.5 AND HIGHER. THIS NEW CALIBRATION IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE VCM 2008.3 DVD. CALIBRATION FILES MAY ALSO BE OBTAINED AT WWW.MOTORCRAFT.COM.

This cured my 2008 supercrew imediately. JF
