EVO Gas Mileage

I was told by the technical people at Edge the programmer does not improve gas mileage on the gas engines like it does on the diesel. I have 35" tires on my truck with the Edge EVO, Banks Intake, and Exhaust and gas milege is not very good. I get 10 mpg when towing and mabey 14 around town. My truck only has 1000 miles on it, mabey I need to break it in more. Any comments???

First off, 1000 miles is barely long enough to let the engine break in. I wouldn't rely on any fuel economy calculations until you hit 2500 miles or so.

Second, 14 MPG around town is about average so don't feel too bad. Some folks might see a little more, some a little less.

Third, fuel economy gains vary from vehicle to vehicle. Some respond better than others. On average, we've seen 1-2 MPG improvements. Some folks claim more, some folks less, and some folks have even seen a decrease in mileage although the latter is rather uncommon. This is pretty much normal for any programmer although again, each one responds a little differently.

With that out of the way, I'd put a few more miles on it and see if it doesn't get any better. Also keep in mind that we are heading into winter and most gas stations have switched over to winter blend (oxygenated) fuels not to mention that just about everything is 10% Ethanol now and that certainly isn't going to help your mileage.

Hope this helps.

Put the stock intake back in if you just want the Edge. The rig will run lean without a custom tune. To run with an intake you will need a custom tune. Check out PHP, they will hook you up.

How do you set RPM lower at cruising speed? RPM at any given speed is derived from gearing and tire size and the EVO cannot change that.

Back to the OPs question, it really depends on how you drive. I did pick up about 1.5mpg average while running Level II on my Evo. But I can also drive it hard and lose several MPG. IMHO you can affect your mileage more with your right foot than any bolt-on accessory.

One cool thing about the Evo/Gryphon is that it has the instant MPG feature. I have found that to be of more help to me than anything else. Being conscious of how much my right foot has an effect on fuel economy really helps keep the mileage up.

Now I will say that in situations where my foot doesn't matter (ie. in "cruise" on the highway) I have seen a noticeable increase in economy. Of course, a 3.30 geared Expy is going to be a little different that a 3.73 or 4.10 geared truck but the results should be comparative.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I definitely agree, it has helped me, I have been running any of the 3 tunes on it because I have no idea which would be more mpg friendlier than stock, can help me out on which one if any?

Thats why I was waiting on my custom economy tune to test it but without any tuning levels installed, i was averaging 15.5 when i keep my foot off the accelerator and cruise but still stay between 60 and 75 which seems to be most mpg friendly.

What do you suggest? Will i get more with the custom tune and banks intake?

In general, the performance settings are usually the best mileage programs. If you have a cold air intake, you might have better luck with the Level 2 program since it may offset the slightly lean condition caused by many intakes.

Custom tuning would generally yield better benefits for both performance and economy, but many trucks run quite well with just the canned tuning. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Hope this helps.

Yeah that is true, but i was told not to install my Banks Intake til i got the custom tunes to make sure it would cause my truck to run lean, it has 45k and my winter driver so i have to take care of it.

P.S. I e-mailed my hex file yesterday and today but haven't heard a reply back.

Hex code is RXAQ5B4
