shift firmness!

Hey guys.......quick question.
Like a lot of you, I have been running custom tunes (PHP) for quite a while now!
I am quite fussy and very in tune with my truck but I just cannot seem to settle on setting my shift firmness??
I would kinda like to take a bit of a poll here to see what most of you a running for firmness!

Fussy, fussy...

Shifting is one of those things that has cause more frustration for both tuners and customers than just about any other driveability aspect. *SIGH*

Hopefully we'll get some good feedback in here on what people are really looking for in their shifting.

On my Edge, i ran a +12 except on the 3-4 and it was a plus 9. I told Bill that when he wrote the custom tunes and I have not adjusted them since.

okay Bill......give us your secret!
what is your custom tuned 87 performance shifts set at????
I have set mine at 4,4, and 3.......and they don't feel as firm as your custom 87 perf. setting???
.....this is why I am a little confused!
If I raise mine to 6 or 7's am I getting too aggressive?

Here's the problem....

The custom options in the programmer are very limited to what you can change. When I am tuning shifting, I am modifying roughly 5 separate parameters for each gear and shift as opposed to the 1 you can change for each shift. This is why custom tuning has a distinct advantage over the basic user mods. With that said, this is also why tuning for shifts is rather tricky. One person's firm shift is another's spilled coffee.

The custom options for the shift firmness do not allow enough adjustment to cause any danger of transmission problems. People run up to the full 25% adjustments and still say it's not firm enough for them. Some, like Bluejay, ran small adjustments and it was good for them. It's all relative.

Anyway, we can always go back and revisit issues with custom tunes. As long as I know what you're looking for and where you're at now, we should be able to get you what you want.

Take care.
