Edge in the cold

I have an Edge Evo and I noticed in the cold (-20C today without wind) that it will turn on and not go to the monitoring screen and when I turn my truck off, it stays lit. I'm assuming it's using some juice when lit so I unplug it and plug it back in, or I'll do that while driving to get my gauges back. Is it ok to keep unplugging and plugging back the Edge?

If it's staying on at shutdown, it COULD be a warning that your battery's charge is low. Cold weather is also not kind to LCD screens. Doesn't damage them, they just don't work right. As far as I know, you won't damage anything by unplugging it and plugging it back in, but it's a pain, right?

Royal pain.

Thanks Jack. I know my battery probably isn't working as great as it could be because of the temperature but it will work even worse (not at all) if I forget to unplug the Edge after I park because it didn't turn off on it's own.

I'll just keep doing what I've been doing until spring I guess.

there was a write up that i was reading last week that they were complaining that the edge was staying lit and not working right, ended up being the battery.

Ugh. Not surprised. If this one kicks the cat I will be on to my third. I'm out of warranty now so I'll be on to a yellow top or something.

What year is the truck, or more importantly how old is the battery?

I just had to replace the battery in our Expedition because of similar problems. One thing to keep in mind is that in "sleep" mode, the Evo draws relatively little current (~50 mA). However, if the unit resets and the LCD lights back up, it draws about 660 mA which is a LOT!

Keep the battery in mind. In most cases, replacing the battery resolves those issues.

Take care.

Im having the same issue with mine. It started a few weeks ago. I can plug and unplug it and it just wont work. My truck was 4 years old in October and am still on the factory battery. Could this be the problem?

Only problem I had with my Edge was when the battery was getting ready to go out. Right at 4 yrs. old! Get ready to buy one.

Truck is an '05 and I think the battery is from 06? Maybe 07. I thought it was the cold because it worked fine up until the cold snap hit. My guess is it's indirectly related to the cold. The cold causes the battery to not work properly which causes the Edge to do what it's doing.

My thoughts excatly. Mine started acting up when it hit freezing temps here. But, it has warmed up now and still isnt working properly.
