'03 F150 VMP Tunes Question

I have an '03 5.4L F150 Scab with tunes from VMP. I currently have it set on the 87 Performance tune. When I stomp on the gas while passing someone on the highway, my RPM's shoot up, which is typical. After I pass them and let off the gas, the RPM's won't come back down. I try braking to get the right gears to kick back in and then try to hit the gas to see if that works, but it doesn't. It eventually comes back down, but I don't think it should stay up there like that.
I've also had some passengers say that they hear a knocking noise when my RPM's shoot up on the highway. I don't hear it probably b/c I think I'm tone deaf, but I've had a couple people mention this to me. They don't hear it unless my RPM's go up while passing someone or climbing a hill.
Anyone know how to fix this?
My truck still feels sluggish even after putting the tunes on. When I first got them, I noticed a little difference, but after having them for a while, it still just feels sluggish. Anyone else experiencing this?
Does the XCal3 work on the new '09 F150s?
Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

Your Xcal will have to be unlocked to use with a different PCM code. It may also need a revision of the internal software. There is a firmware update that was required for 2007 and 2008 F-150 PCMs. I'm sure the same strategy applies to 2009. Justin can tell you. From your description, it sounds like your truck is staying in a lower gear after the downshift. That might not be a programming issue. If you're hearing detonation, you need to go to a higher octane or return it to stock.
