If its just the cable it cant be that hard for me to find one.
I think it may have something to do with the way the connector is attached to the cable. Something about the procedure "crushing" things so that proper contact is lost.

Just be patient, though. If Edge figures out a solution, and it seems they are trying, PHP will again sell the devices.

If they could just write the custom tunes, I would still buy the edge, then the bad cable would be on my shoulders and not theirs. I'm really hoping they still will write custom tunes.

Everyone, I have been emailing edge with a few questions I had with the evo. I then ask him what kind of problems they were having with the 97-03 and here is there response back.

The main issues with the cables is that the monitor will randomly go out then come back on, or the cable will stop sending if to the monitor causing it to go to sleep. In both cases, there are no serious problems that come out of this; its mainly just a display problem, and has no affect on the truck. This is not a wide spread problem, it is just something that can happen, and is a very small percentage.

Hope this might help in some way.

Big Daddy,

We can't write custom tunes unless we upgrade the Evo to a Gryphon, and at that point, the warranty has to go through us and then through Edge. It wouldn't make a difference if you bought it through us or them. The outcome would be the same.

We've had at least one customer who had a cable failure during a programming session, and yes, that did affect the truck. The other issues they talked about are not dangerous -- just annoying -- and the cables still have to be replaced through warranty. And obviously, it is not a widespread problem, as we have been selling 97-03 programmers for over a year. I believe they are still trying to track down the failing lot numbers.

We have about 5-10 cables sitting here that have to go back to Edge to be replaced -- these have come from our customers. If any of them read this thread, please take a minute to explain what happened with the cable in your particular situation so that other members will have info straight from you!

So say I was to buy an SCT Xcal3 from PHP, then PHP decides to sell the gryphon again from a resolved cable problem, would I be able to exchange my SCT for a Gryphon??

That would be awesome because I am looking to buy soon, and from what I've read, I would really like to do business with PHP.

If you got lucky and bought a used one with customs. It would have to have the exact "HEX" code that your truck has for the customs to work. You could get a used one with customs and get it upgraded to your "HEX" code but the tunes would still have to be rebuilt off of your trucks hex code. Also who knows your driving style may differ from the person you bought it from.

Dang, I was looking to get a gryphon as soon as I sold my bike, oh well. Does the Xcal 3 have guages built in or the availability to have the 3 different tunes you can change like the gryphon di? Those were my main reasons for selecting the gryphon.

At least you guys arent backing a product that is not reliable, the bad part is it was such a sought after product. Hopfuly edge will get the problem solved soon, if not looks like the xcal 3 is about the only other option.

Hey you are not dead in the water yet!

Xcal3-3 custom tunes comes with three canned tunes. Max is three tunes in programmer at any one time. You don't have have all three slots customz. You can buy 1, 2, or 3 whatever you want to do.

Removable handheld programmer not dash mountable. Desire dash mount gauges? Scan gauge makes a great dash mount display, the x gauge.

Go and find yourself a used edge with a good cable and get it upgraded with gryphon customz.
Ah, 88racing - I'm going to post a "wait a minute" here. According to everything I've seen PHP post, they are NOT upgrading any existing pre-2004 Edge units until they get the cable problem resolved. They are continuing to support pre-2004 Gryphons.

It may seem wrong not to upgrade an Edge if the user says he has a good cable, but, what if they DO upgrade it and then discover there's a "cable fault"? I think the "hard" cutoff until the cable issue is resolved makes the most sense.

So, if you have a Gryphon already, you're golden. If you have a pre-2004 Edge and are having problems, contact Edge. If you have a pre-2004 Edge and want to upgrade to a Gryphon, stand by. If Edge works out the cable problem, you'll be able to do it. If you can't wait, look into getting an X3.
