We have a trip planned this 4th, going up to Branson, MO. This will be my first time pulling the 6300# travel trailer with the Edge I got a couple of weeks ago. There are some pretty good size hills up in the Ozarks! I've basically been running Bluejays level 3 tune so far. Of course I will go to level 2 for this but just wondered if anyone had any experience or suggestions with the tow settings? Thanks!

 

While towing, I would leave settings alone, just run it as it came. If not towing, then you might want to bump the shifts up. Just my 2 cents.

 

I agree with Bluejay. The tow tune was pretty much written four the tow weight you're pulling. See how it works, and you'll probably decide on some minor tweaks all by yourself.

I just got my Edge today and am stuck with level 2 til the next time I fill up. Any suggestions on settings for just everyday driving and no towing or hauling?

 

Each truck and each person is different, but I used the same for both Levels 2 & 3.

Shift Pressure = +12, +12, +9

Shift points = 5250, 5250, 4800

WOT Fuel = 1.5

Adjust timing as octane demands
Max RPMs = 5650

I am not positive, but I would not. I don't like the idea of retarding timing, though some have done so. I would wait until I could get premium. Around here, it is 93, so I bumped the timing +1.00 and even 1.25.

To add to this, I recall that PHP does not recommend putting in low-octane gas in a high octane tune (i.e., using 87 octane on Level 3 and retarding the timing). The reason is because there are other things that have been adjusted for Level 3 in addition to timing (such as the fuel injector settings and numerous shifting characteristics) that cannot be corrected with a simple timing change.

However, there is no danger in using high-octane gas in a low-octane tune (91 octane in the 87 tow tune). And, in this case, you would increase the timing by +2 degrees. However, because there are other things that have not been adjusted, you would not be getting best performance from the higher-octane fuel.

Since you obviously appear to have had your edge for a while I was interested in your opinion as to whether or not it actually helped or not. I will also be going to the Branson area next week from El Paso. My load will be a little heavier than yours but not much. All total including the Harley the gross vehicle weight will be approx 12,500 lbs. Just unde rthe Ford rated capacity of 13K. Did you realize any noticeable performance in MPG,power etc? I am contemplating buying the edge evolution for some tuning enhancements when I am towing. I appreciate opinions but facts are better.

 

I will be sure and give a report after I make the trip. Might be able to login from there if the campsite has wireless internet. Anyway all I can comment on so far is yes there is a difference. It's not going to feel like a mustang gt but the truck is more lively especially on level 3. MPG wise is hard to say? I have been running bigger tires than stock for some time and my MPG seemed to take a 1-2 gallon hit. But could also be due to the fact that the speedometer and odometer were off. The Edge corrected that and I now seem to have got that 1-2 MPG back? However it could be just that my tires caused a miscalculation? I bought mine used with the thought that if I like it I might upgrade to a Gryphon. I will be doing that upgrade as soon as funds allow. From what others have said the 87 Gryphon tune is equal to the canned Edge 93. Hopefully the tow tune will prove itself worthy also!
