HI, new here and recieved a LOCKED superchips tuner

I have emailed superchips about it, and they said they will unlock it for 100 bucks, however, theres a strong chance that it will not work for my F150 because the dealership might have updated the tune in my ECU, and that it would not be readable by the scanner. though he will give me a credit of 150 towards a new scanner if i send the old one in. 1. has anyone ever heard of this? 2. how would i be able to tell if the dealership updated the tune? 3. if i send it in, would you reccomend the cortex or the flashpaq? thanks guys

Hello & welcome, Mr. Nick, to the very Best F150 site on the Net!

Wellsir - that is indeed an very good credit offer. If you look here: http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...parent=94&pg=1, you'll note what residuals are for some very expensive custom tuners ( e.g the Livewire is a ~$500 programmer).

I do not think you will find a better offer than what Superchips is providing, and you will be getting current hardware with the ability to update over the web, and the ability to be used on a newer truck in future.

I would jump on that credit and get a Flashpaq. You really do not need the extra expense of a Cortex, although it is a very nice canned unit as well. Personal preference.

As for the PCM flash issue - yes, it's possible that, given the age of the truck, and the very real likelihood that Superchips is no longer updating calibrations in their legacy devices, that there is risk that yer PCM is no longer supported.

Good luck to you sir, whatever you decide. Post up some feedback on how you like yer new programmer - much appreciated.

Thanks!
