Anyone having problems with Scangauge II?
Is anyone having problems with their Scangauge II?
I got mine a couple of weeks ago, and have it mounted above my rearview mirror on a Blendmount.
A few days after I installed it it started acting funky.
When I started the truck, it would power up, but not update the gauges, and then go to sleep.
After 5-10 minutes of fiddling with it, it would work properly.
I figured that it might be a temperature related issue since it's been cool at night lately, in the mid 40 range. In the afternoon when it's warm there are no issues. We had a warm spell when I first got it and it didn't start acting up until the weather went back to being more seasonable.
So far I have contacted Linear-Logic and they sent me a replacement.
The one they sent was worse than the original unit. It started reading at startup and worked for about 10-15 minutes then quit.
I am suspecting that possibly the extension cable that comes with the Blendmount might be causing the problem, since I didn't have any problems during the few days I used it before the Blendmount arrived.
The cool weather arrived after the Blendmount installation though....
I'm going to try it without the extension this weekend and see what happens.
So far Linear-Logic has been cooperative, sending out a replacement with out any hassles, but it is dissapointing that the second unit is even more dysfunctional.
I'll be calling them this afternoon if I have time, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue.
I don't think I have an ECM issue since my Innova 3030 code reader will connect when the Scangauge won't.
My truck is a 97 F150 XLT 4X4 SC 4.6L

Hiya!
I wuz a-waitin' fer youz to try yer cable idear!
And???? Does plugging it in direct using only the original SGII cable work without issue?
These things are dead-nuts reliable - unlikely, but still possible, for a problem to occur.
They are good folks - give 'em a call and see what they will do for you if it is still giving you fits.

Ok, same results with or without the extension cable.
Spoke with one of their techs on Monday, and he said they have had some issues with older Fords.
So far I think I have proved my original unit has a temperature issue.
It got down to about 40 last night and I kept unit #1 warm by keeping it in my inside jacket pocket for a couple of hours before I got done work.
It worked as soon as I plugged it in on the drive home.
I was beginning to think my truck had an issue when it was cold, so that has been rule out for now.
The #2 unit worked when cold in the morning but would lose communication after warming a bit.
Today I plugged #2 in when I had to go out this afternoon, and it wouldn't connect right away, but after fiddling with it I did get it to connect and work for the duration of my errands, about 2 hours with 2 stops.
We'll see what happens when I leave for work this evening as it will have sat for a couple of hours. The temps are in the upper 50's right now and I left the window open so the inside temp should be the same as outside.
What seems to be happening is the SG is not communicating with the truck when they act up. They will wake up and usually not update any of the gauges, then go to sleep.
Other times they would wake up only update one or 2 gauges then go to sleep.
#1 didn't start acting up until it got cool in the mornings, we were having an unseasonalble warm spell when I first got it.
#2 worked in the cool mornings and then would go to sleep after it had been on for a while as the truck warmed up inside, although today I was able to get it to connect and work for a while after things were warm.
It's starting to look like the 2 units I have have a critical temperature where they wont work.
Tomorrow, I'm going to try putting them in the fridge or freezer and see if I can replicate the problem with cold temps.
After this morning I think I have ruled out any issues with my truck.
FWIW, I have never had any issues with a regular code reader working with the truck.
I have an Innova 3030, and I have used my buddie's Craftsman reader with no issues, warm or cold.
So far the Scangauge folks have been cooperative, I'm just worried that I won't be able to get this resolved before it starts getting warm around here all the time. I don't have a referigerated garage to put the truck in......
