Mustang Question - 04 Cobra

Is Mike Troyer the guy to get to do a custom tune for an 04 Cobra? I have been out of this for a while and don't know what' s the latest and greatest.

Nothing special about the car, just has a K&N filter and Flowmaster 40's.

And, whenever I do a google search for "troyer tuner" I get links to some networking company. What is the right URL for Troyer Tuners?

I know Mike Troyer has a good rep for tuning Ford trucks, so I assume they are familiar with the Mustang's, too.

Thanks...

I own an 03 cobra. Where are you located?

1st off I would recommend you find a reputable tuner with a dyno locally that can tune the car.

If you're going to go the email tune route, I would also recommend Justin at VMP Tuning. He's got a very good reputation tuning these cars.

Jon Lund tunes at Evolution Performance and he is also very highly regarded.

Just upload the tune to the car and datalog the car on a local dyno (to get your A/F)

or datalog it on the street and email the files to your tuner for revisions.

Wether you have someone tune the car on the dyno or via email tunes the final cost is going to be around the same.

What mods are you doing to the car? Pulley, intake?

To add to my post:

Myself, personally I would stay away from Troyer for tuning that Cobra, I've NEVER heard his name come up once in the cobra community for tuning needs.

Stick with the people who have tuned a ****load of these cars.

Not to mention, his turn around times of 7 months are just a little rediculous.

find someone locally that will tune your car and dyno. Its alot better than a mail order tune that you order over the phone. Because it may need little tweaks here and there that otherwise wouldnt be caught by a un trained eye like yourself. A trained eye will be able to pull that extra 5-10 hp out of your car with a little tweaks here and there. And he wont be able to do or see whats going on if you just order and mail order tune

Thanks for the replies.

I'm in Huntsville, AL. Not sure if there are any reputible tuners in Huntsville.

I'll have a look at VMP tuning and get hold of Justin. I am not doing anything else to the car, just the mufflers and air filter. Just trying to eek out an extra few ponies via a custom tune. No big deal, really.

Thanks for the heads up on Troyer, didn't know the turn around was so long with them.

Yeah I'm not sure who's down your way anymore. I know Runnin with the Devil was in Mobile, you might want to check to see how close they are to you.

Ed is the guy who tunes there and he's pretty good.

If your only mods right now are air filter and exhaust I would save your money til you're ready to put a pulley on.

In my opinion it's really not woth the money right now to tune your car with those mods.

If you have not found it already spend some time with the folks over on svtperformance.com. They'll point you towards folks who are very skilled with the supercharged DOHC. You could also check out svtoa but I'm not sure you'll find a whole lot.

No offense but svtperformance isn't what it used to be. There is very little (if any) technical information on that site anymore.

But if you want some pics and videos and want to a bunch of people arguing like little girls...............that's the site to go to.

Modular Fords is 1,000x better for technical advice.

Mike Troyer did the tuning on my '03 Cobra. 4# lower pulley, AF1 intake, his custom tuning (did not put it on the dyno because he did not have it in his new shop when we tuned the car) stock 3:55 gears, Mickey Thompson ET Streets, car ran consistent 11.60's with a best of 11.22 @ 121 mph at Dragway 42. I ran an 11.65 when JDM was still having trouble getting their 4.6 Cobra out of the 12's..
His '04 Cobra is a mid 10 second car.

You can ask any of the old guys that are still around SCT who wrote the best 4.6 terminator tunes if you think he can't tune Cobras.

He might be able to tune cobras but it shouldn't take 7 months to do it.
