This is relevant - same drivetrain: https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...highlight=2009

I'd expect that, as time goes on the tuning will be optimized further... thank goodness the devices are readily updated...lol

Yer towing experience will improve - you need to order a tow-specific tune - octane of yer choice.

Isn't it strange that it has been over a year and a half since this was done, and there are no updates available? What do these graphs look like with an SCT tuner with VMP, Troyer or PHP tunes???

I hear you.

However, Bill was ahead of his time - and I suspect the other truly talented tuners were not far behind if at all. This did demonstrate the potential of the new drivetrain, AND the ability to flash the TCM, waaaaay back then.

I would expect, given the aforementioned talent, that the results on this platform acheived by any of the top-flight tuners mentioned, would be very similar. And - given the development time / experience to-date, perhaps even better than originally published. Note the octane upon which the results were based...

Not Bill's fault that Edge is dragging their heels. Another reason I prefer SCT products.

So there are tuners and programs now available to "override" the TCM? I have not looked into this for quite some time.

I beleive I just read some of them.

Wow, not sure why a lot of the tuner threads are the way they are. A lot of sifting through BS and pissing contents just to scavenge info. Seems to be a lot of conflicting statements. Difficult for someone "new" to learn at times.

Is the best way to find what you are looking for to call one or all of "the top three" for the real answer? But again, they;re trying to sell product too.

Just looking for a clean shift program, a little more torque/ trailer-ability and something to change the TC. I seem to have issue pulling a trailer in fresh snow with this truck (09 FX4 5.4) as the weight of my trail can push you around and create slip when you need power on a twisty, hilly cottage road in the winter.

They are the way they are because folks are, at the end of the day, just human - it's really no different than if the topic was tires, lifts, drag racing, or A/V ....

Some folks are more cautious, reserved ( suspicious ) than others. To some - a tuner is a big deal.

Calling the 'Top Three' is something which I have always advised. Best to hear it from the horse's mouth so to speak. Although - articulate user's reviews are very, very valuable as well - as Smoke's are.

What does not help are those tuners out at the fringe who CLEARLY don't know what they are doing, do not admit such, and promulgate mis-information that neophytes then take as gospel.

I'm talking about tuners who indicate there are no differences between a max perf tune and a max tow tune; that state that Vendor X cannot control the TCM (when it is already being done by Vendor X's other tuners ... etc, etc.)

Fact is - there are many more tuners who have NO bidness touching yer truck than those that are actually & truly qualified, experienced and competent on the F150 platform - which is unique in and of itself.

And THAT is why I'll stick to the Top Three. These guys have justly earned the respect and loyalty of a lot of members here and elsewhere. They have a vested interest in keeping it that way - rest assured, you'll get no BS from them.

Ain't no one else ever gonna touch my PCM

Want a real treat? Grab a comfy chair, some vittles an yer favourite hydration, a pad & pen, a couple hours, a stack of quarters, feed the dog, send the wife out shopping, and call Mike Troyer to discuss yer truck, tuning, perf, towing, other mods, etc. Oh - and don't fergit to go potty first.

Yes, it is best to call the tuners.
That way you have a one on one conversation with them about what you want and you're not getting distracted by thread crappers and trolls.
Tuners lead busy lives and have families also.
So between their work and families they just don't have the time to get on forums and answer questions.
