working up to a gryphon?

ive tried to do some reading and just want to make sure i get this correctly....

so id like to get a programmer for my truck. looking at the edge evo cs.
so i buy the evo cs, run a canned tune of my choice im assuming. see what results i have over stock. then if i want to exceed even the evo's capabilities i upgrade to a gryphon custom tune which consists of what????

i understand the need to download pegasus off of php and follow the correct sequence of steps to load my custom tune back into my truck after i get the programmer back. im just trying to grasp what it is the evo is able to provide, information wise, to whomever receives my programmer and give me my custom tune to my truck in particular. does the programmer record or store what "my" engine in particular is doing so gryphon can make the adjustments i am looking for?

not sure if ill even go that far yet. do i just want something better then just stock performance, yes. also to make the correction for different tire diameter and anything else that i decide to do in the future,(exhaust, intake) absolutely. but at the same time im not looking to tune my pickup truck like a shelby cobra either.

if anything i more or less would like to try to understand as simply as possible how the canned edge tunes gets transformed into a custom gryphon tune. any simplification be greatly appreciated.

If i were you and going to pay for the edge, i would just go straight to php and order the gryphon from them, instead of buying a edge sending it off then getting it back and waiting for your tunes. Probaly be a little cheaper and quicker just ordering the programmer threw php.

If you want your tunes to be able to modify your transmission shift quality, Edge is not the way to go - you need a SCT to do that.

If you want the CS just order it from PHP.

Also, you will be using Fusion with the CS, not Pegasus. Pegasus is the PHP program for communicating with their monochrome programmers. Instead Fusion is the Edge program for communicating with the new color programmers.

For the CS and CTS you do not need to send it to PHP for any reason. Upgrades and custom tune downloads all happen through Fusion.

glc also has a good point. So far the Edge programmers are unable to reprogram the transmission shifts on the newer 2009+. I've heard there is a slight improvement based on the TCM recalculating pressure and shift timing due to higher output from the engine but I dont know what it is like in person.

yea i think im going to just go ahead and get the gryphon in the first place. im not one to get super super involved with something like this. i just dont want to get something somewhat devoid of some options compared to another. dont plan on getting really **** about trucks performance. just want to unlock and maximize the engines capabilities as well as i can compared to when it left the factory without gettin too complicated.

A "Gryphon" is not compatible with 09+. If you are looking for an Edge with "custom tunes" for a 09+, buy a CS or CTS from PHP and order the tunes.

Please correct me if I'm wrong - but aren't PHP custom tunes for a CS or CTS less expensive if you buy the device from them instead of someone else?

Yes, 1/2 price if you buy the programmer from PHP.
