Buying a USED Edge CS Evolution Programmer 85150
Hi all, I have a line on buying a used Edge CS Evolution Programmer 85150
for a decent price. I do not know the seller at all. The unit is 3 months old, with a receipt to prove..... he claims. What do I need to know to look for when I go look at this unit? How do I know that it does not still have the old truck's info in it still? He used it on a 2010 Chev.

Make sure it is set back to stock.
Assuming you are going to meet the seller, power it up and look for a "0" on the display.
If you're buying over eBay, have him send you a picture of the unit (powered up). Again, look for the "0".

I am definitely meeting him, as it is a local purchase. So when you power up the unit, it shows 0 where exactly on the display? If it is still set to his truck, what would the display show instead of 0? I'd guess "1" but my guessing isn't very reliable. Is this the simplest way to tell in a glance if it is all set to factory, and has the ability to be used on a different vehicle?

1-2-or-3 means it's still programmed to his truck. Don't let him tell you any different if he tries. There is no reason that it can't be plugged into either truck's ODB port and powered up to see what it's set at.

Forgive me... I'm a welding and painting genius, but a motor idiot.

Not sure what to make of all that. I find it weird that their technical services rep would flat out lie to me, but what he said is definitely in contradiction to what our great members here report. Perhaps someone with a little more technical know how could call that # and have a more heart to heart with them.
He also told me that Edge is not stopping PHP from doing any trans adjustments with the custom tunes they do. I believe (not accusing ya buddy) that i read that Jack and Janet said in a previous post that PHP could not get permission from edge to do these adjustments. I could be wrong, and if I am, please tell me so. I think I confused myself more by phoning them than I ever could have been if I just left it all alone.
Was Trent lying to me? Or have times changed? Or am I just not smart enough to see the obvious?

Edge is supposed to be coming out with an update so that trannies on the + 09's tranny can be tuned weather or not that has been done IDK.....I haven't heard anything from Bill at PHP as of yet and I talked to him two weeks ago.....
The only tuning right now is the motor and the tcm picksup on the changes and it adapts from there....

Now, you got some VERY good advice here in this forum. TRY the programmer in your truck. If it boots properly when plugged in, you're halfway there. Next, try to load a program - I'd suggest the Level 2 tow program, because it's a pretty good all around driving program. Don't try to make any "custom changes" when prompted - this is not the time to get fancy. If the program loads properly, make sure the truck starts and drives - you should hopefully notice an improvement. If you want to buy the programmer, do so and you're done. If not, and if it loaded the tune, use the programmer to set the tune back to Level 0 (stock) before you disconnect the programmer!
Next, regarding transmission modifications: I have heard NOTHING from Bill Cohron at PHP about being able to tune the transmission yet, and frankly, he's the only one I trust to tell me this is now possible. I know Edge was/is working on this capability and Bill feels it can be done, but Edge has been adamant that Bill not do it until THEY give the "go-ahead". I feel confident that the unit will eventually be able to program the TCM, but I'm equally certain that it cannot do so at this time.
I hope I've covered everything you were concerned with here. And, I'm going to try to draw Bill Cohron's attention to this thread. I think it would be good to hear straight from him on this.
