New Guy Wants a Tuner

Hi everyone! Im new on the forum but not to wrenching. I grew up here in western PA the son of an auto mechanic, who happened to work at a Ford dealership for about 16 years. Coincidence that I like Fords, I think not. Anyway someone clipped mirrors with me last week and it seems there will be some insurance money left over. So, I was thinking about getting a tuner. What I want is something that will mount on the dash and not cost too much more than $400. I was really thinking about the Edge Evo with the dash pod, but it seems that not a lot of people on here think too highly of them. is there anything else out there in that price range? Oh yeah, not looking too much into custom tunes, the truck runs pretty damn good as it is, I was just trying to squeak a little more milage out of my fuel and help tow my 28 ft. fifth wheel a little better.

Wow, that ended up being quite the book. Thanks guys!

Check out Power Hungry Performance. They custom tune the Edge and call it the Gryphon. I ran it for 100,000 miles on my 2005 and loved it.

Gryphon is unlocked for custom tunes usually by a place that writes tunes. An edge has what are called canned tunes meaning you get kinda a more general tune and can use on multiple vehicles of the same build. Meaning 5.4 f150 and 5.4 f150 as long as the tune is removed from the first vehicle. Custom tunes squeeze out a little more HP and are mated to your vehicle so you can't use it on another. I have an SCT custom tunes from VMP tuning and love the one I have on there right now.

the Edge only has "canned tunes" they are marginally better than stock and many individuals have had issues with "canned tunes"
custom tunes, designed for your truck, it's mods, your useage of the truck and hex code are the BEST option

Yeah and $400 for a canned SCT and I got my custom tuned SCT tuner from vmp and it was only $20 extra for 3 custom tunes. Only ever used one tho.
