evolution/gryphon tuner and engine codes

hey guys first of all this is my first post in these forums so heres a big HI to everyone!!!!

ok so here is the issue

the truck:
2004 ford f150 lariat

aftermarket parts
accel coil packs
evolution/gryphon programmer edge 2 chip
cold air intake. i cant read the make but its a cheap one. (i didnt put it on)
banks monster exhaust system

the problem:
so ive been getting a system too lean bank 1 and 2 code here and there on my truck. ive had the truck for about a year now and only have had this code a handful of times. im starting to turn into a bit of a motor head after doing some repair work on the truck. i have found out that this code popping up is not a good thing. i could ruin my engine with it running too lean. from reading the forums here i see that i am supposed to run a custom tune in my tuner to help prevent the engine from running too lean. is that true? if so where do i get the custom tune for this truck and my tuner? on the tuner i run the 91 octane tune and the truck seems to run like a bat out of hell compared to most of my buddies f150 trucks
also since my CAI seems to be a no name piece of crap i plan on at least upgrading it to a spectre intake. would that help some too? what do i need to do to keep my baby from blowing up? can you guys point me in the right direction with the tuner? or even better yet how to do it?

thanks guys and gals
nick

Get a hold of Bill at PHP and have him write a custom tune for your CAI onto the Gryphon. Problem solved

if my evolution is already upgraded to a gryphon how would i know if it has the tune for a CAI on it or not? i took a look and 60 bucks for a custom tune isnt bad.

furthermore, i recently got the programmer for the vehicle from the guy i bought it from. so for a little while i didnt have the programmer attached to the truck while it was running. would reloading the tune help?

Ditch the no-name intake, put a stock intake on it, and do a Gotts mod to it.

You need to get that intake off immediately. If you are going to use it, you must get a tune written for it. I would do as glc suggested. Put the stocker back on, do the Gotts mod, and though then not necessary, I would still get a custom tune. It will do more for you than any other mod.

How do you get a tune written for a CAI which you can't tell what it is?

I would bet that with a physical description and specs, Bill will know what it is or say get another one.

well here is what ill do. a combo of all the advice lol. get a new intake. give bill a shout at php and get this truck up to snuff. i bought this as is from a dealer. even they didnt know. great dealership huh? then i met the guy who sold it to the dealership and he told me exactly what he did to it and had receipts and dates to prove it. so....yeah ive been behind the power curve on this particular vehicle until about 5 months ago.
thanks for the help guys. oh and i will look into the GOTTS mod too.

The Gotts mod is for a stock intake. I would think you could find a stock intake in a junkyard pretty cheap, or possibly a member here would have one sitting around.

Until you get the intake sorted out, I'd advise reloading the stock tune. Good chance that will clear the lean codes.

a little update. it seems that i already have custom tunes in the gryphon. here are the options i have
return to stock
transmition only
85 custom towing
91 custom performance.

so if i have custom tunes already why would it be throwing codes? you guys gotta bear with me here ive never messed with this before.

If they aren't custom for your truck, they can cause you to throw codes.

85? Sounds like the truck is from a high altitude area.

I would return it to stock for now, clear the codes, and see if they come back. If they do, go find a stock intake somewhere.
