feeling a tad overwhelmed with tuning choices

I have a 2004 F150 lariat with a 5.4 3valve. Current mods include afe intake, bbk throttle body, new exhaust with 2 magnaflow cats instead of the stock 4, new head pipes into new y pipe 3 inch back into a magnaflow dumped before the axle. After I sort the tune out I plan on adding 4.0 gears. I have read info and called different tuning companies and my head is spinning. I have looked at vmp, php, 5 star tuning, more power tuning, and troyer performance. mike at 5 star told me that if my truck isn't happy as is put the stock intake back on it until I get a tune to avoid any chance of issues. Now I am thinking if I do that I am going to order a different intake system. I am just feeling overwhelmed with the different companies and tuning options. I have heard nothing but good things about all of these companies and don't know what to do. Any personal experiences good or bad, will be gladly appreciated.

5 star seems to be defiantly one if the best. A lot of people on here use and recommend him. Not to mention excellent customer service.

Hi.

Mike @ 5Star is correct.

These links may help.

All of the folks you mentioned are great tuners - you can't go wrong with custom tuning from any of them.

So - return yer intake to stock, pick a device you like ( recommend SCT X4 - coming real soon), pick a vendor, decide which tunes you want, fill out their web ordering form, and pull the trigger.

Remember to read the Sticky - it's been updated to help you decide (see last section): https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...unes-read.html

Good luck!

I got my tuner and tunes from vmptuning and to be honest i have ever only used 1 of the 3 tunes i got but i love the one so far. You don't even have to change the intake back if you get custom tunes but i would change it back until you load your tune on at least.

if he's not already, Mike @ 5 star will be offering CMR tunes for you guys as well, feel free to check with him on availability.

This gives you the added options of an inTune or Trinity, with custom tunes from one of your favorite tuners

Thanks

Just received my sctx4 from mike at 5 star tuning. Currently running an 87 performance tune withe my afe intake reinstalled. Seems to to be running solid and the truck feels like a completely new truck.
