Question about tire size adjustments

So my cousin bought an 04 XLT screw 2wd with the 17" steel wheels, and just scored a set of 13 take off chrome 20's with tires on them off of C/L. Anyway those gadgets to change tire size only that looks like a hypertech tuner, do they lock to the vehicle like a real tuner does or can you use it on multiple vehicles?

I found the answer to my own question. The hypertech unit that looks like a programmer is locked to the vehicle.

For what you would pay for that unit, why not spend some more and get a real programmer and get the benefits of good tunes?

Yeah, I told her that. But she said the truck runs fine now. she justs wants to get the speedo right after she puts on the factory 20's with 275/55 pirellis.

She bought the truck from the original owner with 58K on it, not bad for a 2004. BTW the truck is still bone stock, even after 10 years.

Hi.

I grok that. In that case, pick up a used unlocked Edge Evo and just run the L1 trans-only tune. Still allows you to adjust the TS & GR. Plus it's always ready to either invoke the L2 / L3 canned tuning, or get some of PHP's great custom calibrations.

Same can be said for a used X2/SF2 or X3/SF3 - and just order one 'calibrator' tune from an SCT custom tuning vendor.

The dedicated TS/GR calibrators ALL lock the VIN, and ALL are dead-end devices.

good luck

Good idea, I have a used X2 from my 07 that is just sitting and collecting dust. I can give her that and she just needs to get a calibrator tune from somewhere.

Yep, buddy - that would work great. Just ensure it's firmware is updated, then read out the strategy code for here PCM. Then with that in hand call Mike, Mike, or Mike (seems they all have the same name. lol) and tell 'em what you want to do. They can plug in the initial re-cal into a Stock file for that specific strategy (advisable as they have more granular control over exact sizing than the on-device user settings allow ). Download, Flash & go.

Well as per MGD's suggestion, I fired off an email to Mike 5 star for a price quote. I already received a reply. $105 for 1 tune file for TS/GR only. He also sent a link on how to install the downloaded tunes into the X2

Hey.

Just for comparison purposes:

PHP charges $60: http://www.gopowerhungry.com/_sct_calibrations.shtml

VMP charges $99.99: http://vmptuning.com/vmp-custom-tunes/tune/

MPT charges $75: http://www.morepowertuning.com/mptcustomtune

Since there is no real tuning effort going on here, I'd either select the least costly choice, or d i c k er
