5Star vs MPT vs Flashpaq

I will be buying a tuner for my truck this summer and curious to see who & why you guys chose the ones that you chose.

5Star Tuning
MPT (MorePowerTuning)
VMP Tuning
Superchps Flashpaq (2yr powertrain warranty)

I know a bunch of people will say to NOT do the flashpaq, but honestly Im only getting it for the tire change and the little power that the tuner gives. I will NOT be doing Dyno tunes or adding a tone of aftermarket power parts in the future so I do not necessarily need custom tuning. (I dont even have a CAI at the moment!)

I chose 5 Star based on the reviews I read on them. They aren't the most aggressive tunes and I haven't heard anything negative about them. From what I have heard, MPT and VMP (possibly) have a little more aggressive tunes. I am sure they offer something more relaxed too, though. Basically, I chose the company I got the most warm and fuzzies from. Like you, I mainly wanted to correct for tire size and shifting. I wasn't looking to race or drive around like Jeff Gordon. So far, I've been thrilled with the performance. I just this morning changed from the 87 perf/tow to the 93 perf/tow. My goodness, it is awesome.

Oh, and if warranty is your concern, check this out. Awesome deal in my opinion: http://www.stage3motorsports.com/Sta...om-Tuning.html

Flashpaq? Meh...why bother? If yer spending some coin fer tunin', why not get what you'll benefit most from?

Speaking of what you'll benefit most from, both 5 star and MPT are great. I can't speak from personal experience from any other tuners on the 5.0, but those two I KNOW are great. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be super hard to do. I like each for different reasons. IMHO, you can't go wrong with either of these options.

Best bang fer ye buck is, without question, custom tunes.

Let us know what you do.

Can't really say much about personal experiences with tunes. Havent had any, but when you're on a forum, word gets round pretty fast. As of late, I've heard MPT has really been picking up their game. If I do decide to unmarry the tuner I bought, I'm going to give them a go.

Ive had 5 star and Mpt.. 5 star has great tunes they just arent as agressive.. I also have MPT and it is just bad ***! 1 to 3rd gear tires are screaming..

Either company will be great..

And Id recommend the Sct X4 tuner

I've got 5Star. I needed them for tire and gear change, as well as turning off the rear O2 sensors (no cats because of long tubes) so I don't have a check engine light. I haven't asked Mike about it yet, but my tunes permanently leave the PCM in "No ready" code when I tried to get it inspected. It's not because the battery was disconnected or anything, it's permanently stuck like that. Not a giant deal, but it cost me $60 extra to get an "inspection " because of that. Not at all happy with that, but otherwise they're fine.

With all the different programmers on the present and past Ford trucks that I have run, my favorite is MPT, because of the safe added performance on there tunes and great customer service.

Just an FYI, Stage3Motorsports.com offers 5star tuners/tunes that come with lifetime free upgraded tunes for if you get other aftermarket parts. They also offer an option for a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty or a 6 year/100,000 mile warranty.

Yup. I forgot to mention the lifetime tunes. That's another thing that led me to buy from Stage3 and 5 Star.

Thanks Guys! I will probably try to find a cheap used SCT Xcal3 then go with MPT for tunes. The X4 is nice but if I had one Id want it for my Mustang! Im just not gonna be doing much else power wise to this truck.

Im just hoping that the Tuner will help turn the 35's better with my 3.55 gears!

My .02?

Both 5 star and MPT are great for different reasons. Why not buy your device with 3 custom tunes from 5 star/stage 3 (in order to take advantage of the lifetime tunes/warranty) and then by 3 tunes from MPT? That way, you have the best of both worlds.

The reason I suggested buying 3 tunes from MPT is because it doesn't make sense not to. If you buy 2 tunes, the total before forum discount is $150. If you buy 3, the tunes are $50 each - making the total $150 before discount ($120 after discount). So, you're basically buying 2 and getting 1 free.

I gotta say...the more experience I have with MPT, the more I like everything about them.

It will, but I'd certainly recommend regearing with the 35s. That'll help more than anything.

Will MPT do revisions to the tune after data logging or is that an extra fee?
