Lightbulb New 12V outlets installed...

Being new to Ford, I was disappointed to find that they only offer 2 12V DC outlets (i.e. cigarette lighter outlets) in the front of the cab of my SuperCrew. My last truck had 4 outlets, and I needed them with my 2 cell phones (home & work) iPod and occassional GPS unit...so how could I get all the power I need...?

Well, it started with two adapters from Radio Shack, I drilled two 1" holes with a spade bit, made the side-notch required to prevent rotation. I used Liquid Nails to "solidify" the install, although the outlets have friction clips included.

The driver's side outlet was spliced into the original outlet's power, whereas the passenger's side unit was spliced into the passenger dash outlet (one made to look like the 4WD switch)...don't want to overdraw power from one source.

You can opt to kep the rubber outlet covers off and the look is so similar it's eerie

Any questions?

Looks nice,a cover for the center outlet would set it off better and keep dust out when nothing is pluged in.

Actually, it usually has something plugged into it (as with the passenger-side outlet) but I removed them for the installation and pictures. There is also a cigarette lighter that came stock....

Here it is in use:

It can handle half the amps of the original (since it's spliced)...however if you wanted to add a circuit, you can easily add a 10 or 15 or 20-amp breaker to the fuse panel (or just use the 10A "DVD" fuse if yours isn't equipped with one). My devices are an iPod, 2 cellulars and a handheld GPS unit--not high-amp device amongst them.

Once again, if you need more information on how to add a high-amp outlet, let me know! You should not use a blade fuse tap...rather a fuse add-on (so you retain the original cicuit/fuse, and create a seperate circuit with a seperate fuse)....

Anyway, thanks for the question!
