mysterious connector

mysterious connector

97 F150: I found this grey connector down by the hood release/fuse panel cover that isnt connected to anything. anyone know what this is for?

Yeah, I noticed that too on my Expi. Along with 3 or 4 other ones up under the dash.

Might be the connector for the elec. tow brake controller. Could also be a diag. connector. If you look you will find all sorts of connectors with no apperant use. Wire harnesses are made generic for cost reasons and so wiring for acccessories you may not have are already installed. ( makes it easier if you want to add stuff sometimes)

If yopu can get a look at the wiring manual at the dealership, they have diagrams, scetches more like, with the connector locations and either component names or connector numbers. Should tell you what it is.

BTW, the one in the center of the grill below the latch is usually the outside air temp sensor if you have it. Be careful, the sensor isn't much larger than the blank plug.
