Computer Scanner Connection????

Hello,

I have a Actron computer scanner that I have used before on my 2001 Ford F150,4.6, to read trouble codes and other stuff. Today I hooked it up and it just kept asking me to connect it to the DLC connection over and over again. It would not go to the next step. My truck has a misfire jerking problem again, first time it was a DFPE SENSOR, 2nd time a COP, now well ???

I have used the scanner before on my truck with no problems. Anyway I went and tried it on our other car, (2001 Malibu) and it hooked up fine and provided all the data I asked for.

Anybody had this problem? I looked under the truck's dash for any loose wires but none are loose.

Is the computer maybe bad? Any fuses I should look at?

Any help, input is appreciated.

Thanks

Look closely at the pins of the test connector for one or more pins being bent or pushed back into the housing..

Check fuse F3 (20A) in the under-dash fuse panel. It runs to pin 16 of the Data Link Connecotr (DLC) along with the cigar lighter. If your cigar lighter is dead, this could explain it.

Many scanners require this power feed to operate.

Well Steve you hit it right on the money! That was the problem, fuse#3 (20A) was bad. Replaced fuse and the scanner connection works fine, data can be read now. Oh, the lighter was bad too.

I really appreciate your help, my day will be alot better now!!!!

Thank You,

Ruben
